It's funny. Everything is relative. If you asked me last year Cincinnati to Columbus was a long drive. This year that is a local drive. Now Cincinnati to the Spano Dome, that is a different story. However it gives me a long time to find more punch buggies. Anybody have any other games they play while driving? My arm is getting sore from being hit every time she sees a VW Bug.

I guess it is really about the value you get for your money. Say you drive 6 to 10 hours per week for practice. That is 6 to 10 hours per week I get to spend in the back yard with my DD and the rest of my family. My DD is 11 and I couldnt see the value in driving over an hour unless there was just nothing in my area. Maybe at 14 or 16u that would change, but I dont see it happening. Love the coaches for the team she if with now.

There are certainly pros and cons. I know this ... had I known then what I know now, I would have been very willing to spend a lot more time on the road if it meant my DD getting the best coaching available. We only looked at local organizations, but I realize now that there are stronger organizations if you're willing to make the time and commitment.

I remember the padoodles and the slug that follows, she gets around 16 or so and it will hurt to much to play that game to often.

We happily drive our 10U DD just over 2 hours each week! Great coaching, great talent and unlimited opportunity to develop and grow into a player that can take her game to the next level! Driving the distance has also provided us with a team of players and parents that are like minded and have made the same commitment we did. AND there's tons of Tim Horton's along the way!!!

Between hitting lessons & practice, probably 4-5 hours per week. As some people mentioned, nice 1-on-1 time with my DD. Tough when it's bad weather and/or have exams or other family events going on.

They need to open up a few Tim Hortons in Cincinnati. The closest one is in Monroe.

The fees seem high, until you factor in 2 things: Gasoline and Gatorade.

One of my daughters play 10U and last year, we build a foundation for what would have been a very good team for years to come in our home town. Before this season the team was dissolved and we now drive 1-1/2 hours for practice to be on a team that has comparable talent, great coaching, and committed parents. Like many who have posted to this thread I would drive twice the distance for my daughters current team.

We have to go to Costco weekly to restock on Gatorade(30 pack). When we had four girls in sports it was even worse...now have three... By week's end they are scrounging for available bottles.

DD's practices are at different locations, so anywhere from 1-2 hours round trip, with practices going 1 to 2 days per week.

10u was about 15 min. sweet!
12u and 14u an hour to hour and half
16u about an hour with weekly lessons 2 hours away and no local tourneys on schedule.

Build that dang pipeline! ha

Last year we drove 1hr 30min one way for practice 12u. It would have been worth it if the coaching was better, but this year on a better coached team we are driving 10 min. Much better all the way around.

Fortunately, we found a good fit close to home through 14U and then 50 min. away for 16/18U.
