Re: Might be better if posted here, how many

Don't carry four like we did. We ended up with four very unhappy families. We tried to be as fair as we could. The parents that were most upset were the parents whose kid found the backstop more than she did the catchers mitt, and it was by no means the catchers fault. They stated that she needed to pitch more in games to gain experience and help her control. We suggested some side pitching in her back yard about 3 times a week on top of her once-a-week pitching lessons might help. Her pitching coach constantly told her to do her "homework", and we (the coaching staff) told her to do her "homework". I guess she did not like doing her homework.........

I would say three max.

What is the the average number of pitchers most Travel ball teams carry on their roster?

Does it vary depending on talent?

I think 3 is the right number not sure how many people keep but any more then that and it seems somebody will not be happy.

3 would be the number to have just to be safe but if you have 3 make sure they do more than just pitch or it may be a long summer
I say that because my dd pitches BUT when she isnt she has played 1st,2nd and 3rd the more she can help the team the better she feels

From my dd's previous experience, 2 is not enough. I'm not sure if 3 or 4 is the magic number, but if you get into a lot of tournaments with a high game guarentee, the 4 is much better. Like Brianna said, if they can also do other things when not pitching, it makes life a whole lot better!

Our team carried 2 pitchers. Between the 2 of them they pitched all but 5 innings of 53 games. We did have one other pitcher but she only pitched 5 innings.

I know from experience that four is not a good number. There's a similar thread on the forum somewhere. I think three is right.

I think it depends on the talent and the type of pitchers that you have. If you have one of those girls that can throw 3 or 4 games on a Sunday, 5 if necessary, then you only need 2. How many of those are there in the state of Ohio? Most teams are going to need at least 3, and hopefully they have varying styles. Hopefully you have at least one fastballer with a good changeup and 2 junkballers. That should get it done.

I will say from experience anything over 3 is not good...not good at all!! This season we are carrying 2 rotation pitchers and 1 other.

4 is too many. Learned that the hard way. 2 is perfect, as long as no one gets hurt, tired or has a bad day. 3 seems to be the magic number.

With the 3 pitchers we had this year, over the 46 game summer only schedule this is how it broke down for the pitchers. Pretty close, but not exactly equal. (This however was at the 10u level where the third pitcher is needed). We will have 3 again this year at 12u.

PITCHER 1 GAMES APPEARED-18, BATTERS FACED-306, INNINGS PITCHED-64 2/3

PITCHER 2 GAMES APPEARED-21, BATTERS FACED-375, INNINGS PITCHED-84

PITCHER 3 GAMES APPEARED-19, BATTERS FACED-359, INNINGS PITCHED-74 2/3

3 seems right to me ---you only have 2 and 1 is off that day then your team could be in trouble . What happens if you have 2 and 1 is sick all weekend ? Not like replacing any other player on the field. MD

We have 2 studs w/ one filler and all (3) play different positions.

Three is good. Or two and one or two who understand they are part-timers and can do a decent job when needed.

A lot of coaches can't help themselves and carry four or more and have unhappy girls and parents every year.

3 quality pitchers becomes a handful for parents to swallow and a great thing for a coach... you need Bill Clinton to keep it smoothed over for ya
