I'm really trying to watch this softball game between Tennessee and Auburn.....I'd rather get a prostate examination than sit through this mess! The more I watch the more I feel that women's softball shouldn't be on television.:lmao:

there is no O in Auburn or Tennessee . neither pitcher looks that dominant, good , ? yes but 17 K's thru 9 ? not that dominant.

I can say the same about baseball... seen some games that put me to sleep. Now that I think of it... saw some football games that put me too sleep... some basketball games as well...

If we are going to base what is on TV on a single game... there would be no sports on TV.

For all I know, you may like prostate exams more than you like a lot of things. To each their own, I guess;&

We stopped and watched the Tn and Au game yesterday .. Auburn brought out the 'wood' - or composite... they smashed the ball around .. Tenn played sloppy, pitching was not at all that great on either side..saw many 'mental' errors ... on one play Au had runners on 1st, 2nd - batter hit a rocket grounder to SS left, she dove, snagged it (great stop) then just layed there on the ground, she had an easy flip to 2nd to get the force or even time to prob jump and get the runner at third.. she did nothing.. you could see her mental freeze - she forgot where the play was. Saw outfielders collide on a fly ball, saw a easy flare into center field fall between 3 players... disappointing...

Come on... good grief, their not robots nor are they perfect. Most of these players are playing at level that us fat a##s could only imagine. For those that believe its easy, go to your nearest 18u team, and try to take a couple hacks at the plate. :lmao:

Physical errors happen (first inning SS threw ball away allowing 2 runs to score) .. but 3 mental errors in 1 game at D1 ..sorry, unacceptable for a top program wanting to win. First one (ball falling between 3 fielders - none called it) cost UT 2 runs, next batter hit a HR - should have been out of the inning. SS play cost them an out and probably 2-3 runs ... game would have been 'winnable' going into the 5th inning had UT not given them at least 4 or 5 runs. Yea, it happens but I doubt had your team given a game away you as a coach would have been happy...

It is certainly unacceptable, especially for a team and a conference that is attracting more and more California players.

And... you don't need to be able to play on that level to coach on that level and to recognize where problems are. If you subscribe to the "If you think it's easy, then...." mantra then keep that in mind each time you critique anything at all. If you can't do it, keep it to yourself. Give that a few weeks and see how it goes.

Totally agree.

Even at 12U my wife preaches about focus and mental errors. You can see it every practice. She will run a fielding drill (grounders) and at first the girls are flawless. But as they fatigue from running around, their play will degrade. It is at that point that mental focus is needed. As the body fatigues the mind has to help out. But often the mind will slip also. This is when the improvements can happen. This is where the "mental toughness" can be taught and improved upon.

Mental errors = bad focus, not prepared
physical errors = being human

At 12U it is going to happen but at the D1 level those types of errors should never happen. I mean what are they doing during practice? That is what I do not understand. You have to preach communication all the time.

I watched a Michigan State game a while back and saw an OF drop a fly ball............?????????????that is just unacceptable at that level.

More mental mistakes are made during games than true physical ones.

We will open practice with infield - hitting 2 balls at the same time to different fielders (infield and outfield) - calling out which base each is to go to.. the girls have to be mentally into it - 100% or they will get plunked.

We do this for about 30 minutes non-stop.. then we break into hitting and other instruction for the next 90 min .. lastly, we finish with another 30 min of 2 ball in/outfield .. girls are tired, mentally wore out but again they have to focus to do the drills - it is a little more sloppy overall but you can actually watch them rally and finish strong... it pays off in the tough games, we rarely make a mental mistake in the late innings on Sunday when they are tired and wore down..

Personally, I can't wait until these 12u to 16u girls get college age.

I've seen better play out of some of the OHIO 18u teams than I did with a college game I watched the other day.

HUGE mental errors ... and they are only playing one game that day... So fatigue was not even in the picture.

I do not believe for one minute that 12U - 18U girls are nearly as good as these girls that are playing in college. So what is the problem?

Are the best girls not playing in college? Or are they just not getting good coaching? (I think both of these are false.....but hard to explain).

Or could they be somewhat exhausted, distracted, and anxious about handling BOTH college courses and college ball? ;& To say nothing about roommate or romantic problems.
