Be careful of the soaked rubbing alcohol that not too much alcohol gets absorbed into the body which can happen. Mrs. works in a pediatrician office where it happened.

We have been using the gel filled neck wrap for a couple of years. Walmart for less than $5. keep it in the cooler until she needs it.
I catch alot and I use these neck wraps. Most tournaments they let the catchers wear them on the field. I have wore them a couple times when its really hot out.. Also just drink planty of water.

I know everyone has said cool rags but here is my favorite rag and its "green" friendly... We all know how our lovely DD love to cut the sleeves out of all those $20.00 t-shirts...save the sleeve scraps and put them in ur coolers. they are perfect for stretching over ur head or just wiping off ur face and well if you loose them. oh well .......

old trick from someone who has played in FL and Texas a lot...

go to WalMart and order the 4oz or 6 oz plastic bottles of Sprits of Amonia... cheap about $1-$3 a bottle. sometimes it is called some other amonia spirits or something like that.

Add about 1/4 - 1/2 of it to a small cooler - one that holds about 4 can drinks. Add ice and bandanas - we have also used long tube socks or wash cloths. Add a touch of lemon or lime juice to the mixture and a little water as well.

They DO NOT drink the water - they use it to wipe down their face and neck between innings. it will help bring down the core temperature.

The neck things with the gel breaks and makes a mess we like these better.

Sharper image has individual cooling system that goes around the neck also. it lasts several hours. check their website. haven't used it as the sprits works.

you have to order it in OH but only takes 24 hours normally - they keep it on the shelves in the states where it is really hot but they don't here.

also another option for the entire team - invest in a shade cloth - the kind that garden stores have for their plants. you can use it with bungy cords over the dugout. it drops the temperature significantly without obstructing the view and can be used almost over any dugout if you get it long enough. normally 10 X10 or 10 X 12 is long enough.

we had to custom order ours but I think now they sell it by the foot at lowes.

it will be well worth your cost and will keep the kids out of the ER for heat exhaustion.

The catcher on my team puts ice on her wrist to help her cool down and she says it works!
