I'm not laughing. Please let us know why it was a joke. Most of us are tired of rainouts, but what can you do?

I would suggest you should have listened if you are a coach or had your coach explain how things were going to be decided "if" the weather was to make it impossible to complete. There was a quarm held with all coaches voices being heard in regards of how to award placing of teams, again, if the weather was a factor. Runs scored, runs allowed were the deciding factors as was stated to all of the coaches.

Could we have played? I just saw the fields and significant amounts of water are standing on all three at Bohlken; specifically at first and third bases. It would take at least two hours of sun to help dry some of the water, you have four divisions of ages playing, you were looking at starting by 3 or 4 pm the earliest if you could get the fields ready. Do you honestly think you could have gotten everything ready and all games in? I highly doubt it. Even if you shortened the games, you are not holding to the ASA standards for a National/Regional Qualifier and you would be playing very late.

I personally will never again allow a player to play on fields that are quickly prepped after heavy rains to "just" get the games in. It is not worth the injuries I have had to my players or to other teams players. If a foot even slightly sinks in without any stability to the ground, there is a HIGH risk of a knee/ankle injury. I would not like to be the person that was responsible for an injury that could hurt a players future because of poor field conditions. I can only thank the good Lord that my player is recovering and will be ready for Toledo.

We all realized this was the "INAUGRIAL" tournament when we signed up. Hick-ups should be anticipated. I think all of us would like to be there playing right now. I needed the time on the fields for my team to continue to focus on weakness prior to going to Eastern Nationals. The more non-playing days the more intense practices will have to be, just part of the game.

Feistymom and OSUBuckeye, I could not agree more with your posts. I was one of the coaches under the tent when Nick was discussing how to handle the rest of the tournament. I think Nick and his crew did a great job until the softball killer opened up and poured out it's misery on the fields. We have suffered injuries due to poorly dried fields, have suffered through countless weekends of rain and had other TD's not communicate or call things too early, but in this case, Nick made the right call. Congrats Lady Warriors, we hope you do this again next year and we will hope for drier forecasts for you!!! We will be back.

By the way OSUBuckeye, I love reading your posts!!!

It's not the umps fault that he got sick midway through the first game.

In regards to the fields.I just got through playing a doubleheader at 1:eek:o and 2:eek:o in the Metroparks memorial fields, which are approx. 3 miles from Boelken and the other fields. These fields are notorious for being rained out because fields are in the valley and water naturally drains more there. With a bit of work the Metroparks had these fields in playable shape by 12:30.
Also saw Boelken,RRMS,and tri city fields this morning.None of these fields had more water on them then the Metropark fields.Fairview made no attempt to even try to work the fields. They could have started later and shorten up the games. But hey,Fairview got their money and took the easy way out,it happens all the time.Hope this is the first and last tourney they hold.Once again let me stress,I just finished playing 2 games of softball on fields that were completely safe a few miles from Boelken.Have the Fairview TD go down and check the fields and maybe get a few pointers on how to prep fields by the Metroparks crew.Just a little care goes a long way.
And yes, this tournament was a complete waste of time and money. Will be asking at tryouts if we are returning next year to this tourney,if so were trying out with someone else.
Thanks for letting me vent and good evening.

Same thing happened last weekend at NSA states. Five miles away, there were four fields in excellent shape for a baseball tournament, while Tealtown was in shape for pigs playing in the mud. I think some tournaments have the resources to take care of their fields and some don't. Tealtown has a groundskeeper and some older kids with a four wheeler helping, and it took them about 5 hours to get 3 out of 18 fields ready, while Lady Warriors probably had boosters and parents trying to take care of the fields with rakes. After the rain on Saturday it would have taken more than just a rake to fix the fields.

Blackcat,
The kids and boosters with rakes were right on target.Went to Boelken fields after rains had stopped(about 9:30 in the morning)and sure enough, the TD,a few teenage kids, and a bunch of moms were yukking it up inside.
When I asked about Coach Wolansky(the TD) about the tourney he smartass replied "Games are startin' in an hour."Boy did they have a good laugh on me as I left.Heard them laughing almost all the way to my car.
What a classless bunch!

Great job Lady Warriors!

Hopefully next year you won't have as much rain. Out of all the tournaments that have had rain this year i think this is the tournament that was best for contacting everybody and making sure everyone knew about what was going on. This was a very well scheduled tournament and I would LOVE to play at this tournament next year!

Great job and good luck with the weather next year! :)
