Florida scored 15 of the runs in the 2nd inning. The 3rd pitcher in that inning should have been charged with 3 ER because relief pitchers do not benefit by errors committed prior to them pitching.

14.26.3 A relief pitcher does not receive the benefit of previous chances of outs when reconstructing the inning to determine earned and unearned runs charged to her. The original pitcher does. Thus, a relief pitcher could be charged with an earned run that does not appear in the team?s totals.

Florida tagged Minnesota with their first loss today, 15-2.

Florida is good and Ohio State is not performing. Ohio State is lacking a strong pitching rotation or, have not figured out to get the best out of what they have (pitch calling/ pitch matchup) and have nothing coming in next year- i sure hope they are searching for a transfer. But what else is new

I cant be the only one wondering whats going on in cbus -- vikingsix is correct , pitching is still an issue . but that could be said the past few years . and he states no help on the way . ? And the list of talent leaving the state of Ohio that are fantastic pitchers -- E Gabriel (Tn) T Alvelo (Wash) Shelby ? (Louisville) Slatten ( Tx) Eggins hitting 69 MPH as a Hs Jr ( So Florida) Dorsey succeeding at OU , Anderson having early success at Toledo . Thacker and Trainer are dang good also . Maybe some of these were recruited to Tosu but choose to go elsewhere . But it sure looks bad to have such lack of success with all these talented ladies playing else where .

Now you have to be fair here, the new coaching staff has one one recruiting season I think, I may be wrong, but she was given a rotation that was average at best.....give it some time to work through what she has a choice over and then make judgement.....

In all fairness, when OSU took over, their first task was to evaluate what they have and what their needs were- they should have picked up a pitcher for this year- be it JUCO transfer or recruit- and another for next year. It's NO secret that the new staffs doesn't consider many of the Kalfatis recruits valuable recruits and they even refer to them as dead weight....Now i have heard their hands are tied because OSU administration doesn't look kindly on "cutting" athletes (reducing scholarships) notwithstanding, for the life of me I cannot understand why they did not recruit one for this year and next year..

And Manitoudan makes a good point- looks like more of the same with OHiO talent leaving the state- IMHO, the new coaches at OSU missed on not recruiting Eggins.

My opinion is that the top talent in Ohio that went elsewhere choose to do so.

Pretty sure i recall hearing that the OSU never gave Gabriel a "sniff" until she was being heavily recruited by Tenn.

I know of several OHIO 2016 & 2017 recruits that would have LOVED to have gone to the OSU but were put on the back burner and instead went on to commit to other B1G schools/AAC/ACC schools- go figure

Some time ago, I heard that OSU wanted to start using home grown talent and I think that was with the new head coach. But then looks to the west for players. That may have rubbed girls the wrong way.

Also, maybe it's because the girls don't want to travel every weekend but 3 weekends for games (3/21-3/23, 4/9-4/13, and 4/23-4/27).

Just curious on your angle here fpitchdad .. what difference does it make ? Is it a prerequisite for making intelligent comment on Osu's struggles ? if you have something to add because your dd plays at AU then fire away .

Slatten's family was from Texas and she just went home to play at UTexas. It isn't like OSU lost an "Ohio" girl on that one. Alvelo and Gabriel would give OSU a boost for sure. Looking at their recruits...california @tOSU seems to be a theme....

I"m no Tosu fan . will make it a lot easier to root against that way . No way I could root against some of the kids I mentioned that ended up elsewhere .. except Gabriel .. great player , but no way in hades I'd ever root for UT .

One of the Bright spots I saw about tOSU in Florida was Cammi P. She has a very nice stick very composed at the plate. Very nice player.

Only thing I would like to say is that the girls coming from Cali, etc. I would think are second or third tier players since not going to school out there somewhere. I am not saying that is bad but I believe osu is missing the boat on the best players in Ohio and letting them sign elsewhere. I would think these Ohio girls would love to stay close to home so family and friends can watch them play but if they are not being contacted then I see them going elsewhere. OSU definitely has some recruiting work to do. With this being said, are the girls doing their work and contacting the OSU program as well? It does work both ways. I know college coaches cannot get out and see everyone but some names are on a top shelf that everyone knows about and if the girls are emailing them consistently then the coaches should make it to a game to see them. I know my players are sending emails and schedules to coaches every week and hopefully getting on their radars. Parents and kids have to realize that they have to put effort in this as well. Coaches do not come to watch a game just because they have a free moment, must be a reason why they are there.

This is another one of those topics that seems to come up every year. While I don't doubt that OSU softball has missed recruiting some of the top Ohio talent in recent years, I think we need to be careful to not compare it to the football program. While many young men grow up in Ohio wanting to be a Buckeyes football player someday, and shame on the OSU coaches if they don't aggressively recruit the best ones in the state, we should not assume that many young girls want (or should want) to be Buckeye softball players, or volleyball or ****** players for that matter. Ohio is a football state, and OSU football has a long winning tradition, a ton of TV and media exposure, a lot of players who go on to the NFL, etc. Additionally, let's face it, the weather factor is a bigger deal for softball (or baseball or golf) than it is for football, so we shouldn't be surprised when some softball players really only seriously consider programs in the south. I'm an Ohio State fan, but I'm not an alumnus nor am I one of those presumptuous (and dare I say sometimes obnoxious) people who think that OSU should get every top Ohio recruit in every sport.

Something else to consider. Its still really early n the season, Some teams haddent seen dirt since September. I would let things play out and you will see where everyone stands. I heard coach P make a comment that I really liked. Its not enough to win 50 games on the season and fall at regional s, if you do then those 50 wins mean nothing. Its about getting to and past regional s, does you no good to start strong and stumble at the end.
