DD will be going to several tryouts over the next few weeks.

two of which happen to be on the same day one 10a-12p the other 2pm-4pm. Catcher is one of her positions, depending the team she could be the #1
but more than likely will persue being #1 at another position.

How do we handle staying after for one and getting to the next on time? I don't want to tell the second we'll be late cuz we were at another tryout...

Is it ok to ask to be evaluated first as to not be late to the second?

Each team has something of what she is looking for so trying to rank them 1 or 2 just won't work.

I hate try outs!

Honesty doesn't hurt. Be honest with them. Coaches understand that you have to make the best decision for your daughter.

We are running into the same problem this year, I say just be honest and ask for your dd to catcher first if possible at first tryout or ask for an earlier or later tryout for that position. If they are serious about her they will work with you.

Also, be honest with the second team you may be late for. We all understand that the next few weekends are going to be crazy for families. Most teams will work with you to give dd a fair shot. Best of luck and be blessed!

Ditto on the honesty. If you have prioritized your tryouts, DO NOT spoil your DD's opportunity to make a "choice team" by short cutting a tryout just to make it to another tryout. Make a phone call, talk to the coaches - whatever. Explain the situation. Think about it - would you want your DD to play for a coach that wouldn't understand your dilemma?

Coaches are sometimes borderline desparate for quality athletes. Most coaches will even schedule a "private tryout" if you are really serious about wanting to play for their team. Pity the coach that turns away players!

we know the second team is already interested b/c coach has already seen her play and we have already spoken on the phone and he knows she has other try outs. I just didn't realize at the time two were on the same day:eek:

good advice by all,

I suggest you read the tryout information closely. Organizations who offer incentives, scholarships, discounts, etc., to play are often struggling. Every player should be treated the same as far as fee's and opportunities

I haven't seen any that do this and am curious as to why you would post this in two threads that are about time conflicts.

Both threads were basically about the same topic. The same answer applied

Just be honest with your second team and say that you might be a little late to their tryouts due to another tryout. I don't think there is a rule about how many tryouts you can go to, lol. Just try your best to make both so your DD can have more choices to choose from.

Most of the time each organization has more than one tryout date. Also most are flexible and will schedule a private tryout.

I agree with all of the above posts, most of the coaches understand that there are several tryouts going on and are willing to work with you. If you were to come late, i am sure they wont turn you away. Also, you can always ask for a private tryout as well.

Ask yourself this question, If a coach is not being understanding about a tryout, do you really want to play for them? :)

Since I'm one of the coaches for our organization, I'll be one of the guys on the field evaluating the players. If someone were to call us explaining they would be late due to another tryout on the same day, we would have no problem with it and if need be, would stay later to make sure she received the same tryout opportunity as the rest of the girls. I'm sure many other organizations are the same way. Don't be afraid to call and explain your situation. Any reputable organization would understand and accomodate.

I agree 100% Lenski ... organizations want good quality players and will work with you to get them. I would also recommend asking other parents who have had DD's in Fastpitch that have played for several years what the reputation of the organizations that you are looking at is. It is important that you find the 'right' one for your DD. Ask about player turnover, quality of coaching, leaders in the organization and quality of schedule that they play. There are some great organizations here in Ohio - you can tell a lot about them just by reading their coaches posts here at OFC - many are willing to help any way they can...

It is a long fastpitch season and you really want to make the right choice for your DD.

NFCA magazine had a great article this month on finding the right travel ball team - I'll see if I can find it online for you....

Tryouts are good for your DD ... hopefully they will bring out the best in her play and you will find a great organization to play with ... All the best in 2010...
