Need advice

Ok so I actually thought I had given up my HS coaching. I went to a community college for a year and been coaching a travel team for past 2 years now...I love not dealing with the politics of travel ball. I just got a text tonight that our HS parents want our HS coach out (been this way for years) which is why I wanted to move on, we all know its politics and usually AD's don't have the guts to rid themselves of an unworthy HS coach. This coach...I coached with for a couple years but he is not my cup of tea. He is quiet in front of people outside of the dugout but berates the girls in the dugout quietly. They all say they don't want to speak up because afraid of him staying and holding a grudge (he will and does). We are decent but will never be to the big level so what to do? Couple reasons, do I want to even mess with it myself and should girls speak up? we have had probably a half dozen not play last couple years solely because of him and were good ball players. Let me say I don't condone that however because that's no reason not to play, I'm just saying....and i know most of you know what I am saying. I told my wife I was reaching out to my ofc friends for advice on this. I love these girls and there is good talent there and I have coached many of them in the past so I would like to see them enjoy themselves. Should we try to get him out and yes some of them want me to try to get the job. Thoughts?

Here's a big question...do you want him out for the good of the organization and the girls or because you want his job?
If you lead the charge to getting him ousted, the agenda may not be so transparent. I think you made the case well enough for us!
Good luck with this.

It seems like you have moved on. It is tough to go back.

I'd keep your options open but would not lead the charge. The current coach will resent it, along with the AD and the Administration. It won't do your candidacy any good.

IF (that is a big if) they decide to replace the current varsity coach then you have a choice to apply or not. Get more experience but don't get involved in the politics of the High School. You'd be likely to fall victim of a similar coup at some future date.

I'm with Fairman and CZ on this one. Let some other unsuspecting sole replace the existing coach. They'll probably be gone in a year or two anyhow, then, if you still want the job, take it - Removing suspicion that you orchestrated the takeover.

Very good point by all of you. And to answer your question CZ, it's definitely for the good of the girls. I honestly am not sure I would want it or not. Travel ball is sooooo much better for me without the politics. Parents all get along, no crying because they think their kid "should" be playing and it's evident that she should not. We have talent all the way around with our travel team and they all know their roles.

That being said...I will certainly take the advice and not lead any part of it as it makes perfect sense. As far as applying for the job, well I have time to decide that if it were to come available. Keep the words of wisdom coming and thanks to you all so far.
