I want to clarify that not ALL High School programs are bad. We have some real D1 state contenders, and the reigning state champs, right here in SWO.

Let us not forget how these HS coaches are a little clueless with how "conditioning" should be voluntary. Our high is pay-to play and is quite expensive (as are a lot of schools now). With everything else going on, we can't afford it all. She works this time of year to pay to play this sport, but gets belittled everyday by horrible coaches. She doesn't want to embarrass herself or us by telling them our business, but she gets hurt feelings everyday. During the season, she only works on Sundays as to not miss anything, but puts in extra hours now to save money for season time. She loves this game so much-she is paying herself to play.

She is a senior and during winterball she is benched a lot due to not going to conditioning during that week (been varsity every year). four years ago she loved softball and everything about it and couldn't wait to play it 12 months a year and play in college. Now we, as a family, are looking forward to that final game this year. Coaches need to step back and be people sometimes. When the girls state that they are working out on their time because they can't make the scheduled times then they need to leave these girls alone and let them honor all their committments in life.

As a travel coach, and now a HS coach, I would have no problems letting a player go to hitting practice with her travel team. I don't have a problem with them missing conditioning for work, FFA meetings, or anything else. I wish all my players had a travel team hitting practice to attend every week. The ones that are at conditioning are getting faster and stronger, and it will show when try outs roll around. Do I like to see players there? Absolutely. But, I don't want to burn them out before we start practice 5-6 times a week. They will see me enough in a month and a half.
