DD is on HS V team, season ended (lost sectional game) but coach scheduled a make up game for today which has been canceled again and rescheduled for Thurs with another practice tomorrow. The dilemma is DD's travel team has practice tomorrow because we have a scrimmage on Saturday.

Is the HS season considered over since we lost the sectional? Most important question - can she get in trouble for practicing with the travel team on Wed.? Last HS makeup game was supposed to be tonight.

FYI - the only reason the HS game is only being played so the other team can have their senior night.

The HS season is not over until the coach releases the team. If she practices with her travel team on Weds and plays HS ball on Thursday, then she would be in violation.

Correct. We are in a similar situation right now. HS team is trying to get this last game in for the seniors. The gosh darned weather won't cooperate with us.

Hopefully you'll find comfort in knowing that you are not alone in feeling this way. Especially this year!

Permit me to semi-hijack this one. Speaking of HS drama: How's this?

Pitcher is facing new batter. Batter shows bunt. Pitcher says to corner's "Play up, she's showing bunt". 3rd base yells "Don't tell me what to do." Player bunts, reaches first, life goes on. Between innings, 3B says "Coach, tell her to quit bossing me around". Pitcher calmly says that it wasn't a personal attack - she's trying to help the team play better. 3B says "But, I don't need any help"...

Arghhhh !

(As the saying goes, There is no "I" in team - but there's a "ME")

I thought you could practice????????? regardless

No nothing with your travel team or summer rec. team for that matter till your season is complete, which could run into June if the coach desires.

I have 2 league games that have to be made up in accordance to our league bylaws. One was scheduled for today..not going to happen...the other on Friday. We were out of tourney last Monday...try to keep your girls coming two weeks after the fact!!! We may be playing into next week, which means the girls I have cannot do anything outside of HS ball till we are done.

Maybe it is different in Michigan, but as you can tell from the unanimous opinions on this thread, showing up to practice or scrimmage with your TB team before the HS has finished its entire season (including any HS games that are scheduled after being knocked out of the State Tournament) is an OHSSA violation.

Travel Ball coaches are now starting to sweat this thing out. Any older Travel Ball team scheduled for a Memorial Day weekend tournament has to hate the weather forecast for this week and we are starting to get a little more than anxious over the Dayton Metro tournament the weekend of June 3rd.

I remember those days, for 4 straight years we were short 3 or 4 Michigan kids due their high school teams lengthy State tournament run. It can be nerve racking lol.

Well it got worse......already rescheduled the Thurs. game now to Saturday. TB team has a scrimmage scheduled. We won't be there now either!!! I'm seriously hating this season!!

DD wants to just quit the HS team so she can play with TB, don't want that to happen, but I can't blame her for feeling that way!

I bet there are a lot of TB teams that are getting really nervous if they have any games/practices/tourneys scheduled for the next 2 weekends.

Try this on. Coach pulls 7th grader up from JV for our Sectional roster states to entire team she's there for experience only, not to play. Kid isn't fast so can't pinch run. Could pinch hit her, but not ready to field other than maybe 1st or 2nd base in an emergency. If you really plan on not playing her maybe you could release her to her summer team so she could actually play softball instead of watch other kids play. In MN we don't start sections til next week and likely will be alive at least through Sat the 28th so that is two more weekend's shot for this kid playing with her summer team and two more if we make it to state.

Why schedule a tourny before High School State is over? Why not let these ladies stay loyal to their freinds and community?

Can never figure out why a coach would do this. Happened to my DD this year with basketball. Pulled her up halfway through the season, so she could only play two quarters on JV, and then basically sat for the varsity games. In my opinion, play is the best experience you can get.

Can't wait for HS Softball to be over as we are out of the tournament and still have two league games to make up. Today's will be cancelled and the coach doesn't have practice if the game is cancelled. DD just wants to get on with TB, (so does her parents.)

For 16U and above I agree and in MN essentially at those ages no one schedules a tourney until after Sections are complete and expect for those that get through to state to play short handed (travel would be short handed not HS).

For 14U 99% of 8th/9th graders are not playing Varsity and would like to start playing softball before summer is over and summer ball wraps up come heck or high water by the end of the first complete week of August.
