Why schedule a tourny before High School State is over? Why not let these ladies stay loyal to their freinds and community?

We weren't planning on it (draft schedule from last fall didn't have us starting until weekend of June 10) and we will absolutely support any of our players who are still in the State Tournament when our first TB tournament comes along. But the Dayton Metro tournament is an ASA/USA qualifier and going to the ASA/USA tournament is one of our team's goals. Given that the statistical odds of several TB players still being in the State Tournament on June 3rd-5th were very low, we opted to enter the Dayton Metro. We are now also facing player conflicts because of graduations of siblings and because of exams. Again, we totally understand those conflicts. I believe that the sponsors of the Dayton Metro qualifying tournament will seek to avoid these conflicts for HS players in future years.

It's a risk that we undertook and no player will be penalized because they can't play that weekend. My comment about sweating it out simply reflects the fact that the weather has increased the odds that we won't win this bet.

Well it got worse......already rescheduled the Thurs. game now to Saturday. TB team has a scrimmage scheduled. We won't be there now either!!! I'm seriously hating this season!!

DD wants to just quit the HS team so she can play with TB, don't want that to happen, but I can't blame her for feeling that way!

I bet there are a lot of TB teams that are getting really nervous if they have any games/practices/tourneys scheduled for the next 2 weekends.

What grade is she in?;&

Bear1985 - my DD is a Freshman.

Just got word that the HS game has yet again been rescheduled........to Monday evening. I can't believe the other team even wants to play it now. It's just so they can have their Senior night. I would suggest that she have their JV play their V and have one big party!!

The earlier post about the 7th grader being pulled up to play JV - can they do that in MN? You can't here. Parents may want to reconsider letting that happen again.

Remember-it is when the HS coach says they are released--WHAT IF HS coach says no one is released until all uniforms are turned in or paid for? Had a Senior skip a couple of years ago, not turn her stuff in, can the coach technically make all her remaining players ineligible theoretically forever in that situation?

2011 OHSAA Softball Calendar (From the OHSAA Website)

Feb. 21 First Day of Coaching Pitchers and Catchers Only
Mar. 7 First Day of Coaching
Mar. 28 Season Begins
April 18 Non-Interscholastic Competition No Longer Permitted
May 1 Sectional Tournament Draw Date
May 7 - May 14 Sectional Tournament
May 16 - May 21 District Tournament
May 25 - May 28 Regional Tournament
June 2 - June 4 State Tournament
June 11 Season Ends

None of this is a secret, TB coaches should plan accordingly. I never planned anything for 14U and up prior to June 1 at the very earliest. (AS cgs said, even that's a crapshoot) Since most HS teams have a minority of TB players, I think it's great that the HS coach would want to try and get in as many games as they could, especially with this year's weather. Losing interest in the season when the weather finally starts getting decent has never made sense to me.

IMO (since you asked), I think your DD should play with the HS team and be happy. :)

So what about the JV players wanting to join their 14U teams but haven't been released yet? DD is really antsy and just wanting to play for her team, weather it be school or travel.
Our team still has 2 rained out games that are listed as "TBA", not canceled. V is hoping to get their first play-off game in today and the JV is just cooling their heals, not even getting practices in because of weather and V's need for the gym.

Couldn't find any 6 timers, but holy cow these kids must have been awesome. A 7th or 8th grader against an 11th or 12th grader is basically a man against a boy. Very impressive.
