New Format for ASA Regionals and NQ's

At the council meeting today it was decided that the format for all ASA Regionals and NQ's would be triple elimination (3 game guarantee) and the entry fees for all these tournaments is $300.

Triple elimination???? So if 2 teams are in the finals and one is still undeafeated the other team has to beat them 3 straight games? WOW!

no! thats not correct. if you look at the bracket it just gives every team a minimum of three games. not every team will get beaat 3 times.

That makes more sense. When we played the ASA Hall of Fame in Oklahoma last year it was basically double elimination but if you started 0-2 you were still in until you lost your 3rd game.

I personally prefer the double elimination. I don't like the triple elimination for the single fact that if your team is undefeated going into the championship game and loses, that's it, your team finishes second place. This happened to a team at the NSA states in Boardman last year. The team that won states had lost one or two games, don't remember which, and beat the undefeated team to come in first place.

Triple elimination is like a delayed single elimination, you're only guaranteed three games, after that one loss can put you out depending on where your team is in the bracket. I'm not sure why ASA is going to triple elimination, what was wrong with double elimination?

Does anyone know where you can find a "program generator" for this format? ? ? The way I'm reading this is that this is not a "true" triple elimination, so we better not advertise it as such. ? ?If your third game is a loss then you go home.

You would think ASA would have had the format established prior to awarding bids.

Unless I am mistaken, at the ASA National Council in Tucson, the body voted to do away with the three game guarantee format for championship play.

There were too many issues with the 3 game guarantee brackets, as well as teams want more than three games when they are playing in championship play.
