Immediate News Release from Amateur Softball Association.
Due to the onslaught of parents calling about umpiring, the ASA has developed the following policy. Effective immediately, all ASA youth tournaments will have to have 3 cameras installed at each ball field that is use for play. These cameras will be used to monitor umpire, coach, player, and spectator behavior. The location of these cameras will be disclosed in a separate news release soon.
High definition cameras will be used. The video from these cameras can be used to official protest an umpire?s call, except for pitching location calls. The video will also be used to determine penalties for unruly coaches, players, and spectators. A team can protest one call per game. Please remember that once you use your protest, your pitcher's strike zone just shrunk to the size of a coffee can.
To offset the incurred cost of the cameras and the installation, Tournament Directors are granted authority to add an additional $500 to each team's registration fee for the tournament.
The beatings will continue until morale improves. That is all.
