To answer your question, Yes the intention is to play only the tournaments that will make us better and the qualifiers we will play regardless. We will not replace all tourneys. Just some.

Regarding qualifying. It is somewhat of a numbers game and a calculated risk (# of births available etc.)
However, we know to be successful even for the qualifiers we will be better prepared by playing the best teams we can find as many times as we can (i.e. our structured friendly California model) rather than the typical Ohio format..
So in summary we truly believe that the probability of qualifying as well as the performance and results we would have at nationals only goes up with this format.

I currently have 4 to 5 top teams verbally committed and an additional 3 or 4 top (12 and 13u) teams considering.... Judging by the responses on the PM's I have received... and frankly the "light bulb coming on" for many teams including us that change is needed.... We will pull this off.

So, the strongest 12U and 13U's if you haven't already sent me a PM.... do so.

Sorry I was drafting this as JC was posting sorry for some of the same response...

I'm glad to know that I got to the next level of statdom when a Glover's scorebook was passed down to me last year!
before any new coaches start running over to the Lasers, make sure not to step on the toes of the ones doing a great job, okay, maybe not to the ones who hate wgman, but you get my drift...plus, if lilly were to go to Lasers (i seriously doubt that would ever happen), he would have to wear one of them visors that cavanaugh wears..really not his style (or the plaid shorts worn by tangy-mike! talk about clash of styles!)
btw, tangy-mike, Indy Blast 13u is hunting for you, I provided them with your team profile, name and what tourneys you were at....that 3rd base ray liotta dude is fired up!

Mount Gilead (35 - 45 min north of Cbus)
Additionally, we have had a request to have one of the friendlies in the Dayton area.... We have no problem traveling so this is definitely an option.... Any other interest in Dayton area?

You are absolutely correct. Lets say the Lasers changed their methods where it came to coaching. Lets say they got Hillhouse, Lilly, ect. to be the trainers, and some other very qualified person(s) to be the coaches. How many teams at each age group could we field that might be competitve?. .......

Sooooooo......are you suggesting the Lasers' coaches are not qualified or their methods are somehow flawed. As an organization, they obviosly do something right. Even their coaches meetings are things of legend. (I know that inside joke is getting old, but that was an OFC Hall of Fame thread. Even the story where ManDan's coach pointed him out to the Laser posse hunting him down.)

No, that is not what I am saying at all. Wow talk about taking something out of context. We all know the Lasers are at the top of the food chain in summer softball in Ohio. The conversation was about how to create teams that could be national brand names (such as Bat Busters, Corona Angals etc) The Lasers are a very good organization, but they are not nearly at the same level as the teams I just mentioned. The conversation was about having men like Lilly, Hillhouse, Howard, etc consolidate their efforts within an organization such as the Lasers to improve it to national respect. All this for the benefit of our daughters, so they could play at schools like UCLA, AZ, Florida etc.
For your info, my own DD pitched 3 years for the Lasers White team (18u), and two of those years were unbeatable by any other organization within the borders of Ohio. Not nearly good enough for national respect. They had some of the very best talent this state offered. Still not nearly good enough to compete on a national level. That team included 2 Ohio State girls, Gatorade POY, College All American,5 MAC players and 3 became all MAC players. I think all of them were first team all state players in high school save maybe one.
This attitude is typical of what is lacking in Ohio. There is a difference between being able to compete at the national level and being the best in Ohio. That simply is not good enough if we are going to compete with the west and south for national reputation.

Let's get something straight, I am the guy wearing the grey cotton gym shorts. Dumbbucket broke out the plaid.

Regarding Indy Blast - I heard of their successes last weekend, very impressive. Understand they picked up the lefty #1 from Indiana Thunder. Very nice player. I hope we get the chance to play them.

A comment about Team Ohio:

Before a ball was ever thrown or a bat was ever swung, Team Ohio would need to learn very valuable lesson. How to 'LOSE'.

Anyone can win, but if you can't lose, stay together and become stronger - you will never recognize the vision. This is equally - if not more important for the parents. The best training in the world is for not, if the team isn't together.

Lasers Red 98 would like to announce that Bill Lilly will be working with the team in Feb, and Bill dosn't have to wear the visor.

slammers north!

No, just one more team the understands ELITE SKILLS Development is required to COMPETE and/or WIN nationally as well as provide DDs the tools that will get them RECRUITED.

And why I gave Lasers Red 98 Kudos above for being the MOST dedicated to Developing their DDs of all other Laser teams "That I've seen".

Dudes,

Couple of thoughts?.First: not a coach?.supportive parent like many of you, and go where told and carry what told.

Second, we have qualified for the 12U ASA Eastern tournament by winning our first tournament. This absolutely gives us some flexibility and positions us to forego another ASA Eastern tournament (or community based tournament) if we can fill the open weekend with top tier teams and just bang on each other all day.

We will still be attending big name tournaments and probably look at the ASA National qualifier tournament (think only 1 or 2 in this region), but beyond that, believe that playing against "the best" in 4 or 5 game series is the approach to really get at what the kids will experience at any year-end ASA tournament (regional or Nationals).

Challenge is at this point, not getting a lot of interest because it is different approach from traditional travel softball where teams just sign up for tournaments every weekend (note we did this last year too!!).

In order to beat the best (Cali, Texas, etc.) feel we need to play best and train better than the rest!

Good Day!!

RIGHT ON! And in doing that 12 Girls will realize the VISION I'm pushing for ORG OHIO... Stopped using TEAM, as it was wrong picture.

ORG OHIO, would be for all kids of all ages to do exactly what you are trying to do but WITH PROVEN & CONNECTED RESOURCES that translates into true ELITE TEAMS, ELITE PLAYERS, & ELITE RECRUITING & COLLEGE OPPORTUNTIES.

Love it, you are already going there, but would still think lacking RESOURCES or will be challenged with RESOURCES if not designed into a PROGRAM that qualified RESOURCES will support and be able to make money, but also GIVE so much to the girls they can't get elsewhere.

One thing to keep in mind in regards to the Batbusters, Angels, Minors Gold, etc. These are not just teams. But businesses. They have great indoor facilities, their own outdoor complexes. They host major tournaments, have major sponsors, and bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars into the "business". These aren't ran by a guy/gal who works a 9-5. Their lives are softball/sports related.

If you want a model of a consistant very successful team close by, that you could model after. I would call Tommy of the Shamrocks in Va.

Thanks for the contact in Va.

good to hear talk about advancing ohio fastpitch, the talent is there , hopefully everyone starts pulling together, getting past some old rivalries and such (ringer --quit mentioning me and the lasers :) ) I hope i get to be part of a movement that is bigger than any 1 team or person. Even if my kid is long gone. but that part about being able to handle losing is a legit comment. MD
