Spot on! Ohio weather goes downhill Nov 1
Wow, just think if they had to hold State Championships in SWO instead of the old dungeon in Akron!!! lol
Spot on! Ohio weather goes downhill Nov 1
If you want to know why this is even being considered - They could care less about SOFTBALL!!!!!I think this concern about extending the season is a little over blown and is only thinking about the elite travel player. Extending the school season would only affect maybe 10% of the teams in the state??? Any player that doesn't make regionals would be done around June 1st. The Ohio High School Athletic Association is not making decisions based on a small percentage of players. There are Varsity, JV and Freshman teams that would all get to play additional games because of this change. In addition to extra games because of a better chance of improved weather, hundreds if not thousands of players would benefit from extra practices because of a longer season.
This is the right thing to do. OHSAA makes Ohio High Schools plays during the NCAA quiet period. Which even limits the MAC or Conference USA coaches from seeing them play in Competitive State Tournaments. Have you checked out the rest of the country? Their schedules? Number of games they play? How many High Schools across the country play Tournaments during the NCAA WCWS? Many Do not. And where are all of the players in the SEC, ACC and PAC12 coming from? Not Ohio. So much needs to be done. Name one Ohio college team that is relevant in NCAA. Just one. Very few High school coaches work for their players. Very few AD's keep track of school or OHSAA records. I believe we could compete - If one or two colleges in Ohio would get the very best players from Ohio. If Ohio became serious about Fastpitch, who knows what could happen. God knows OSU needs some help. I have probably said enough on the issues surrounding the OHSAA and the joke it is.
What have you done to change it?
IMHO Softball should be a fall sport. August, September, with the tournament in October. You could probably squeeze state finals into Halloween weekend with less rain outs. The final 4 should be at OSU.
If these dates are used that would mean preseason practices would begin right after the 4th July weekend. That would seriously interfere with a lot f of family vacations and other summer activities. Remember for many, school ball is their only time they play softball.
I fully understand the desire to play in the fall but the timing doesn't work well.
