Coming from the parent of a player who spent more time pulling splinters out of her rear end then playing her first few years in travel. Hardwork, Sacrafice and Committment is all that seperates your number one's and two's sometimes and let's not forget confidence.
After 2 and a half season with a team my daughter loved and coaches she loved we made the decision to leave for hopes of more opportunity. Although it hurt her a great deal to leave she did end up getting more opportunity and in a result of that she began to get confidence on the field that she was not given before.
Private lesson for 4 years, any time her pitcher needs someone to catch her private lesson she jumps on the opportunity. She loves the game, she wants to become better and she know that hard work will pay off. She is lead off batter for her new team and a starting infielder now and I contribute a lot of that to the coach who gave her opportunity and to her, she did not let leaving her first team beat her. She became more dedicated, she works harder and she gave herself goals( one of which is to make her old coaches see that she had something to offer all a long).
Coaches in the dog eat dog world of travel don't over look your number 2's. A lot of times they want it more then your #1's give them opportunity to shine, don't pull them out of the game the first error they make. These girls are your diamonds in the rough. I truly believe if a lot of these girls are given as much opportunity as your #1s they will shine for you.
