Starting pitcher leaves the game after pitching 3 innings, can she re-enter the game as a pitcher in a later inning?
Where do I find the rule?

In high school, everyone can leave the game once and re-enter as long as they come back in the same place in the batting order, and there are no restrictions as to which position they can play. If she were to not actually leave the batting line-up, but just moved to another defensive position, she could actually keep returning to pitch, but wouldn't be allowed to throw warm-ups if it was in the middle of an inning (believe I have that right).

This is one of those where there isn't a rule that says she can't return to pitch, so it isn't prohibited.

The only prohibition is that a pitcher can only return to pitch once in the same inning. But you could have her do that seven times if you wanted to (and if you played seven innings).

Beyond the rule book, the NFHS case book covers this. See case play 3.3.5. This case play explains that a pitcher may return to pitch (assuming it's not a second time in the same inning and that the player has re-entry and eligibility remaining).

3-3-5 Any player, starter, or substitute may be withdrawn from the game and re-entered once, provided that such player occupies the same batting position whenever in the lineup. A starter and any substitute for a starter may not be in the game at the same time. A violation results in an illegal substitution.

The only rule that specifically applies to a pitcher returning: 6-2-5 A pitcher returning in the same half inning will not be granted any warm-up pitches.

Thanks everyone!
Btw- this was a 10 inning game where our starter left the game sick, but was ok to return in the extra innings but the ump and coach of the opposing team argued that she was able to return to the game but not pitch. We ended up losing 3-2 :(
