Rumor or Truth? State Tournament Moving Away from Akron Firestone

I heard a rumor today that the OHSAA Softball State Tournament is being moved away from Akron Firestone Stadium.


The OHSAA website does not say anything about this and their State Tournament 2013 page is not updated yet. Anybody hear anything?


It'd be a darn shame to take them away from there. Always a great atmosphere and no better place to play than the home of the only NPF Softball team in Ohio.

Havent heard anything and while I have enjoyed the atmosphere in Akron, The Ohio State University wouldnt be a bad choice either.

And the S.W. Ohio people like Xavier, and N.W. thinks U. Toledo is ideal.

Some where in the middle of the state would be nice for travel. I thought they signed a 10 year contract two years ago.

I heard after state tournament last season that they were moving it back to Ashland.(not confirmed)

It would be nice to see them move the tourney to Columbus. Basketball plays at the Schott, Baseball also plays in Columbus at Huntington Park .... Football used to play at the Shoe. I am sure whatever the costs, I am sure OHSSA has plenty of money. Speaking of which does anyone know what OHSSA's annual revenues are?

Ummmm.....Xavier doesn't even have a softball team...and U of Toledo is not ideal...field is 2 miles from the school!!

Well I just got confirmation that Akron has contract till 2022. So I guess we can say it is not going anywhere for a while.
