Mavrick was at the same game we were at. Chain reaction won and it was a very well played game. Sure when you lose "you should of won". Chain Reaction won the game as home team getting the go ahead run with little time left. Sort of like a seventh inning run to win the game.

This game was a perfect example of a Spano 60 Min drop dead game - You have to play different and play strategical ball. Going ahead as a visiting team by 2 runs with only 1 out and only 9 minutes left to finish the inning or revert back to the previous inning tie breaker rules changes the whole strategy. Having your next two batters strike out on purpose to get the home team in the field changes the whole momentum of the game. Unlike the previously played pool games - this game should have been reverted back to the previous inning because the inning was not completed. We had two pool play games where we were home team, end while we were batting and the official score was the score at the end of the previous completed inning. The Vipers & The Chain Reaction played their hearts out and the Chain had us beat on runners to first by 1 or the big time stall would have been on ;&. Congratulations to The Chain Reaction - hopefully we'll get another chance to play again.

Great tournament ICE 11u. After battling back from a late night loss (saturday) you showed your true colors by going on a multi-game win streak to make it to the finals. The road was not easy, nor was it neat. Beating a very solid Stingrays group, then battling a polished Lady Roadrunner team in the semi's it looked like another championship was at hand.
ICE 11u nation finally ran out of gas in the championship game; losing 4-1 to a very good older team with an awesome young pitcher who we remember from last year. One bad call at third (with two outs) opened up the flood gates and started a rally. hats off to that girl and that team.
Heads held high ladies..... We'll be back.

I enjoyed watching watching the games today. There were some very talented teams playing in this tournament and it was fun to watch. Congrats Lasers Black!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and congratulatory comments. I am very proud of my team's performance this weekend. We hit the ball very well up and down the lineup, scored a lot of runs and only gave up 4 runs for the tournament which is a good indication of good pitching (and catching) and good team defense. I am also especially proud of them based on the schedule we had to play on Friday and Saturday (Friday - 7:10pm, 11:50pm, Saturday - 7:40pm, 10:00pm). Those late games sure do put a dent in the hotel pool & fun time promised as part of this winter tournament, although I will have to admit that I caved on the 'no swimming before a game' rule Saturday AM.

Congratulations to the Ice for a spirited and hard fought final. What a gritty bunch of young ladies who had a great run through elimination play.

Also thanks to the Pitts Spirit Gold on two hard fought games this weekend. Unfortunately because of the blind draw we found ourselves on the same side of the bracket otherwise I am pretty sure they would have made a run at the finals. The Spirit Gold are a well coached team and a first class group of players, coaches and parents. It was fun.

Finally, the folks at Spano Dome took a lot of heat over the last week regarding the 14U tournament. This was my first time to the Dome, so I didn't know what to expect. In my opinion, I thought the tournament was well run, the concessions were affordable, the restrooms were pretty clean, the fields were raked between games, and although it sounds like everyone doesn't have the same opinion - I thought the umpiring was pretty good despite only having one umpire for everything except the championship. Nothing is going to make playing inside like playing outside, but win or lose I was happy we went.

Boone - thanks for letting me have the birthday girl for the weekend.

I have to second the thoughts on the Spano Dome, although some of the rules are unfortunate all in all it was a great weekend for the girls and nice to get on dirt and play some ball. cangrats to the 10u ice and good luck on your season

I also thought it ran very well and was a great weekend for our girls. The only thing I would change would be to let them finish the inning. But all in all great job Spano.

I know everyone has different opinions - but I thought it was a great indoor tournament: well ran, great competition, and very well played games. As far as I know, everyone played by the same rules and had the same umpires - the best team won. It's real easy to complain when you feel like you got beat by the format...but the bottom line is good teams find a way to win and anything can happen when you're playing tough competition and in close games. I felt our team was as good as anyone at that tournament, but I'm sure the other 16 teams felt the same way or they wouldn't have been there!

Great weekend VIPERS! Looking forward to a great 2009 season!!!!

i thought the tournament was pretty cool. but am i the only one who wondered why the stingrays didn't throw there big pitcher in the game against the ice? i watched her throw on friday and a little on saturday and was pretty impressed.

Over confident?? Ice is only an 11U team and most girls are pretty small. Maybe saving the big pitcher for the championship game?? just a guess.
