The Slammers won the Ohio Emeralds Scholarship Tournament playing at 18U!!! Not bad for a 13U team! Bigtrain's Slammers are now 38-1 with 6 tournament titles in 2008. Gone and forgotten? Not the Bigtrain! :) ;) ;D

The team they beat for the title was from Ontario, Canada and I belive they had their full regular roster. I can tell you from personal experience bats work better in softball than hockey sticks. lol!

Since I'm from PA ... are all Ohio HS players still unavailable for travel?

But, even if some HS players were absent (and couldn't the Slammers have some absent as well?), it's still saying something. It looks like it at least one 16U there too. Would like to see game scores and the final placements, if available.

Added later ... there's more info on the Huddle.

The Slammers had full roster as none of the girls play for a school team and most of them are age 13 and under with the majority being under 13.

I thought this team was mostly 8th graders. Which would make most of them 13-14. But by travel ball dates a 13U team?

No, just a friend who has a lot of respect for the man and what he achieves. ;)

I finally got a chance to see the Slammers play this Sunday against a Pennsulvania team. While the Slammers did not catch the world on fire with their offense, they were practically flawless on defense. They hung back by about 3 runs all game. The last couple innings they got something going, and a error by the Pennsulvania 1st baseman really got their momentium moving. Although I expected to see a blowout, the seperation seemed to be very strong defense combined with a super aggressive baserunning mindset. In the end it was the Slammers constant baserunning pressure in the final inning that was the difference. It was a pleasure to watch, and I look forward to seeing them play in the future.

The man knows what he is doing, took the 12U slammers team to what the final 4 in ASA nationals held in california. I remember reading the national eteamz board before those nationals and their record was being scoffed at by the west coast teams, but after the Slammers beat west coast heavy weight after heavy weight they were given their props by west coast fans. Big train has impressed me, he should probably open a softball consulting business for those interested in taking a young team and turning them into a national power, there havent been alot of national powers from Ohio in that age bracket.

My daughter has played the last few years against the slammers. You have to respect the job Bigtrain has done. The whole Slammers organization. Kids and parents. I don't even know the man, But a first class organization from what I see.

You cannot argue with his results and I wish he was back on OFC. He always posted facts and the truth with his perpsective thrown in. To bad people couldn't handle it. I would tke him over some lately.

In addition to understanding the game, he knows what it takes to get a team to that level. The overwhelming majority of parents aren't up for the type of commitment that is required. What it shows is that Ohio can indeed produce top teams and players who will go big-time Div. I.

There are others around that know what it takes to compete with the big boys. Where the Train found ten to twelve dedicated players and families is where the others fell short. To find this many kids who want to sacrifice their life and childhood for softball and the parents that can afford the thousands being spent is what is really amazing.

Practice makes perfect. the 18u teams that the Slammers defeated this weekend probably haven't practiced as much in six years as what the Slammers have in two.

The real test is can he keep them together and this dedicated when they hit fifteen and sixteen years old. Driving, proms, dances and dates are more difficult to pass up for young women as playing dolls, video games, skate boarding and other twelve year old activities are.

But as it stands now, they look to be king of the hill just waiting for someone to try and knock them off.

I think there are parents out there who would make this level of commitment, but very few young ladies who are willing to do it.

One of Bigtrain's most repeated quotes to me has been "Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect!"

Just my opinion but I don't care who the teams are....any U13 team winning a U18 tourney is a big kudos and hats off from this coach anyway!
