The only thing the Slammers are doing is helping make OHIO softball better. People can talk about player burnout and coach personality all they want, but the job the Slammers are doing is working and people are taking notice. Last year, on this forum, people were ready to tar and feather Big Train and couldn't wait for the Slammers to lose. I sense a change this year. It makes me wonder what has changed. Big Train's absence on this forum? Slammers 5th place finish at ASA?

I hope the Slammers keep working. I hope other teams keep working and raising the bar for OHIO softball.

The player burn out theory is an excuse people make for not working as hard as these kids. When I was a kid I played major travel hockey growing up, we would miss schools on most fridays to travel for the weekend, the car ride was spent doing my homework, we would play withing a 2 hour drive a few times a week during school nights, then go to Buffalo, Toronto, Montreal, Boston etc on the weekends. We would play well over 100 games a year and practice when we didnt have a game. Our summers were spent in week long camps at BGSU, MSU or Michigan or Power skating camps etc. When all is said and done, that was the time of my life, one kid that was a goalie for my first travel team when I was in second grade is still one of my best friends to this day at the age of 37. We started hanging out on a trip to toronto when we went to hockey hall of fame and been hanging out ever since lol. If I didnt love playing hockey I promise I would have gotten burned out, but I loved it, that is what I wanted to do. I started playing when I was 4 and about 5 years ago stopped due to time constraints with work kids etc, and I really really miss it.

My point is dont assume these young ladies will get burned out, its a beautiful thing to see a kid find something they love to do and are good at. As long as they continue to love the game, I see no reason any of the kids will get burned out. Just IMO ?;D

looks like the slammers have 10-11 kids who really want to play DI college ball and take the attitude uberjones had as a kid
if that's what they truly want to do, they are on the right path
and they understand just how HARD it is to get a DI scholarship for softball and they dedicate themselves to that while nearly everyone else just says ``it's too damn hard'' and tries to pull the slammers kids back to the pack
