Top Travel Coaches......

Don't forget there are many very good coaches who don't get the press because they aren't with big organizations or they haven't got the horses to win the tournaments. It's like Manny Acta said the other day " At some point were only as good as our rosters".

Or you could go with this. You can teach a monkey to fly a rocket but you cant make him a rocket scientist.

In my limited experience::

Stingrays 11U - Bill Skerbetz, Chad Burton, Mike Robinson & Lex

Lasers Purple - Tad Nicholson and crew (I only know Tad)

Hawks 99 Gold - Dan Kepple

All of you coaches have touched my daughter or taught her something when she was going through a very difficult time with "loving the game". Thank you so much! Each of you have the utmost respect from our family!!!

Tadd and Justun (Laser Purple) have been my daughters' coaches for several years. They handle themselves with class on and off the field. It's the way they coach the lessons of the game and life lessons that make me proud that our family are apart of their team.

I agree with the several posts about any coach who gives of his time deserves credit. I do however want to mention an orginization that I have had the pleasure of seeing at many tournaments. The Thunder Elite group is a top class group and all the coaches and parents we have met are great.

Also Laser Orange 14U, this coach wins and looses with the greatest of class. Great guy!

Stingrays Leedy. Again world class coaches. Came to congratulate one of my pitchers for an outstadning weekend during a game when we were playing them.

So many others that I hate to just mention a few, but these three really stand out to me.

The fine folks who have coached my daughter are certainly deserving:

Danny Cole - currently 14 U Ice
Great organization - great individual organizational skills, great coaching and a fine man. Danny's teams are consistently among the top because he knows the game and he challenges his teams with top competition. My daughter played her last year of 10U with Danny (& Mike Cole) and I can't think of two better people to have introduced her to travel ball. They gave her a solid foundation of fundamentals and I'm grateful they saw something in her.

Tom Steiger, Chuck Vickers and Ken Spaller - currently 14 U Tigerlillies

The organization and this staff have stayed the course, stayed true to the organizational philosophy and they do it with class. Tom is a wiz with organization and communication. Tom, Chuck and Ken handle the coaching as a trio amazingly well - and they do it as a team because they all have busy families.

All of these folks have a common trait, they treat the kids and parents with respect and just as important they treat the game of softball with respect. My daughter has been very fortunate to have these folks teach her the game. We as a family have enjoyed every minute.

B--do they make excuses like, "my #1 was in Elite Force Academy Camp" or "all my girls are injured so.." and "we made so many mistakes, we gave u the game." In essence they put the opposing coach down even they they won. And if so, are they really that much of a class act to be responsible in leading these young ladies?

A true coach wins and loses with class. just sayin

;&;&;& Pretty sure our coach heard that one this summer.

I would like to add a few 18U coaches for the 2011 Season:

The following coaches, week in and week out, are always a pleasure to coach against. I don't like to throw out names because you ALWAYS miss some well deserving people. But these guys come to my mind as great coaches or managers. Maybe more important... They are just great individuals as well...

1. Mike Haas - Buckeye Heat
2. Rick Sherman - Road Runners Elite
3. Elliot Thompson - Ohio Bandits
4. Terry Morman - Stingrays
5. Bill White - Valley Extreme
6. Chuck Short - Ohio Ice

I will have to say Glen Widner. Great combination of teaching and exposure. I believe his 18U Lasers White team has all the girls committed to college. Possibly all D1. Great guy, great coach!

From the dark side perspective (ump), I thought the Laser Orange 14u coach (don't recall his name) and the Hawks Doug Lenos are great people to work with.

Cliff Philen his teams have won multiple National Championships and played in several Super World Series Finals winning one. Both his daughters received softball scholarships (Wright State and Youngstown State) as well as most of his past players. He knows how to teach the game at the highest level. Just a great teacher. He will be coaching the Ohio Outlaws Black 14U team.
