Which MOTELS serve travel ball teams the best? From cost to locations, who ranks as the best for the price?

Well, our recommendation isn't going to appeal to most travel team members, but we love Red Roof Inn. And it's not because we haven't enjoyed the lap of luxury in other aspects of our lives. We know it's not the greatest, but it's clean, (it's a little noisy with that heat/air conditioner unit), AND THEY LOVE PETS. So, if you don't have a pet, you'll probably want a step up. But since our room is charged to the team, we don't want to incur a pet fee or, for that matter, an unnecessarily high motel fee, so WE LOVE RED ROOF INNS. This endorsement brought to other pet owners by Casey, the Wonder Dog.

After several years of staying at team hotels in the $80 per night range, we have found in the past year that we really like the Choice Hotels group that includes Comfort Inn and Suites. The prices are a little lower, and for the first time in several years, I finally earned enough points for a free night through them.

We also agree with CGS in that we don't mind the cheaper but clean Red Roof Inns.

For long weekends and especially for week long events ... Homewood Suites. Breakfast & dinner, various beverages for all ages, Washer & Dryer. Really like the "suite" concept, but then often times we have multiple kids with us.

Drury Inn is getting rave reviews lately also for most of same reasons as above, and still moderately priced at around $99.00 /night. Have stayed there (Drury) for business, and very pleased.

Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn Express.

And, one that I can get my cooler into on the first floor and empty out the ice machine

First WARNING . . . Stay away from the Metropolitian at Compuware!!!!!!! Reception area very nice, but rooms need a major overhaul. The elevators and hallways stinch is unreal. The cleanliness of the rooms was very superficial and dishes sat in the hall way for days on end. Management and staff was exceedingly rude and very short with everyone. I would guess this is due to being understaffed during high volume periods.

Fairfield Inn by Mariott in Maumee is a very clean well managed hotel. Provides a nice environment for the price.

Embassy Suites, OMG, I so enjoyed the layout of the rooms. Only issue was the person sleeping on the pullout, i.e., moi, gets to hear the noise coming up the open atrium. However those sleeping in the closed bedroom area were in 7th Heaven. Warm breakfast was excellent. Very clean and beautiful atmosphere.

would be cool if OFC Members had a collective agreement with a couple chains similar to what employeers get? I know, time, money, who's going to manage it... or, just use the work ID number;&

I like the Towne Home suites by Marriot dealio's with the bedrooms and little kitchens.

Some Residence Inns can be gotten for fairly reasonable rates as well. It's nice to have a full size refrigerator and kitchenette. Restaurant bills add up fast, and being able to prepare your own meals can offset the higher price of the suite-type properties.

I wouldn't think that an employer should mind using their discount code or contract ID number to get a reduced rate. It shouldn't cost them anything.

My employer also doesn't mind if an employee takes advantage of hotel or airline incentive program benefits for personal use, as long as you are not staying or flying on those programs just to accumulate points or miles.

I was able to use Hilton Honors points this past Christmas to get my son $200 in Best Buy gift cards. Those points were all earned on business travel. :)

probably actually helps them keep up to the BS projection of business travel projections they boasted about to grind the discount out of them even deeper.

If my wife goes with me, I stay in some of the place above otherwise I look for cheap since the org pays for coaches hotels. I've stayed in Microtels, Motel 6 and Super 8s that were both nice and not so nice. My requirements are wifi, air conditioning and tv with captions. I only sleep there so luxury is not a big thing. I don't spend enough time at the hotel to enjoy luxury. The team usually stay in nicer hotels with a pool, etc. I swim like a rock so lack of pool is a safety feature for me.

I'm a big lobby guy and like to hang out into the evening, so I always like the Courtyards since they have a big lobby with plenty of couches chairs, computers, TVs, etc. Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express are usually good. As someone above said, sometimes you can get a Residence Inn for a good rate, and those are always nice.

If I am staying for more than a night, I really like to have one of the above or at least a La Quinta or Comfort Inn or something like that. If it's just one night, I can handle the Motel 6s. I often get on Hotwire for my college trips and save a ton of money for my budget. I can usually get a Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express or Courtyard or nicer for around $50 to $70. For our conference, there are one or two "host hotels" for each school in the league and we end up paying around $60-75 (with a free full breakfast or at least a big discount) per room for Courtyards or other nice hotels. We usually stay in the Courtyards and the girls love them.

The cheapest hotel with an outdoor pool. Nothing better then tilting back a few cold ones back at the pool while the little dorks swim. JMHO

Definitely the Drury Inn! They have a manager's happy hour every night (if your game times don't interfere) where they have appetizers and three free drinks per adult. The customer service is excellent. They have given us late check-out times so that the teens who aren't playing and couldn't care less about softball, can stay at the hotel instead of being trapped at the field. If there is a Drury Inn available, that is usually our teams first choice.

We enjoyed the Drury Inn as well. They were one of the first hotels to include a refrigerator in the rooms standard.
