Just curious... how many sanctioned middle school leagues are there in Ohio. Up in NWO, we have about 80 teams in one league, all non-sanctioned. Findlay has about 20, all non-sanctioned. Are there any reason to sanction these teams?? I know plenty of reasons not to.

My DD plays on an OHSAA sanctioned Middle School team in SWO, and I see absolutely no good reason for their team to be sanctioned. Many teams they play on their school schedule are not sanctioned, so many of these teams play year-round together.

The OHSAA sanction follows the team and not the league, and you can definitely tell the difference b/t teams that are and are not squished under the thuumb of the almighty sanction.

The coach get's paid is the big difference, in today's economy and if the school can afford it then I'm a supporter of sanctioning/sponsoring in order to put money in a coaches pocket for developing fastpitch at the younger levels.

Can you have a "club" school team (representing a school in a league) and the individual girls still be free to sanction with the governing bodies individually with their travel teams?

Who says a club team can't pay their coach????? We pay all of our summer tournament head coaches.

I just want to see the answer to this one.

My DD plays on a local team similar to the CincyFury response and on a travel team.

one of the reasons a junior high softball program is sponsored/sanctioned is because they are paying the coach something and busing the kids to and from games. Club Ball is not travel ball.

sanctioning or sponsoring is for the junior high programs, has nothing to do with travel, if a team is sanctioned or sponsored then they have to follow OHSAA guidelines, which means they cant participate with their travel team while playing on their school team and cant until their said team is eliminated from the end of the season tournament and thier junior high season is officially over. if the junior high team is not sponsored or sanctioned then the said kids can participate with both teams during the junior high season.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge here, but what determines if a team is sponsored or sanction at the jr high level?

We do not have a jr high team and I am exploring, but i do not want to impact any of the girls ability to play with their travel team.

What is my way to do both?

For the jr high team NOT to be recognized or funded by the school, Jim.

If it is, the girls can't play travel ball until the jr high season is finished by the school and school coach saying it is done.

I got the funding definition, but what does recognized mean? If you play in their league is that recognized?

Yes call your AD to be 100% sure, recognized by my understanding is School Board Approved and Recognized and then Sponsored (funds given). Otherwise they are just a junior high team playing ball and it does not affect your travel team plans.
