At my DD game today the team that we were playing against was stepping back when pitching. The umpire said that both feet have to contact the rubber. My being the butt that I am said, no she can step back. At the end of the game the umpire said that in Middle School both feet have to be on the rubber and it is the high school rule to step back.

I thought both middle school and high school were under the same rules.

even though it wasn't my DD team they should be taugh the right way.

They should be the same- at least they have all been in the middle school games I've ever been involved with.

There aren't any "special" middle school rules in the NFHS rule book, though some school districts will create their own rules about time limits, number of innings or other minor points.

I would have asked the umpire that if the game wasn't being played under NFHS rules, what exactly rules are they using?

Not sure why he would want to make it more difficult on a middle school team. I could see if a travel kid doenst want to step back, but if its a rec ball type pitcher stepping back can really help them.

Sounds odd.

Uhh, doesn't somebody have to have a rulebook with them when they umpire games?

I agree! It's one thing for a Blue to blow a call, and that happens. I've done it, I hate to admit, But for a Blue to just pull something from their rearend is another topic.;&
FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing to SLOW!

Now Blue, do you think that happens? Really, Hmm? :)

Speaking for myself! Yep I have blown a call, do I like to admit it definitely
not. But maybe I'm just one of the few Blues that will take it on the chin.

Coaches make mistakes, Players make mistakes, Umpires make mistakes, Spectators......:rolleyes:Well they're not part of the game.
