Re: Players Clinic Featuring UD Coaches
"consider 30 bucks no big deal. you should have wasted over 200 at the olympic clinic. Talk about a joke- Jenny spent most of the time talking about herself and there was no real instruction on the pitching side. Howarad was very winded on the hitting side also but I will say they were more focused on hitting. I would not recomend attending these unless you don't mind spending the money to get to meet the olympians."

Both days of the clinic we went into the audience to ask how things were going to see if there were any issues or questions anyone had. We probably spent 30 minutes or more doing that. Then at lunch we answered questions and after wards we stayed around for a couple hours demonstrating and answering questions and letting the kids try out different bats we had brought to the clinic.

Many of the kids wanted to know more about Jennie, such as how fast she threw the ball, who taught her how to pitch, how many pitches did she throw at 14 and which one was her best. She was giving them what THEY wanted. Could you explain NO REAL INSTRUCTION ON THE PITCHING SIDE? Was it a Doug Gillis teaching clinic? No she went over general pitching concepts and showed the girls what she does. It would be interesting to her from this persons daughter if she enjoyed herself or if it was sticker shock on dad's part. It costs money to bring the Olympians to this part of the country and rent out a facility like we had.

One dad put it in perspective by saying if I had a son and he could spend the day talking to Barry Bonds or Albert Pujolses about hitting it would be a memory for the rest of his life and my daughters being with Jennie and Crystl with pictures and autographs sealed the deal and when are they coming back!

Talking about good or bad things that happen at a public clinic is healthy as AnotherSoftballMom pointed out....6 weeks after the event seems a little late if you were not satisfied especially after WE think we went way out of the way to make sure we handled all the issues that were presented to us during the clinic. I think they signed anything presented to them and gave photo opportunities to everyone. If you followed them on tour this year you may have waited in line and still never got an autograph, complained about the parking, seating and concessions.

We had a lot more people that were satisfied and did not feel like they wasted their money or time coming to this clinic.

This person also pointed out in a PM that he felt he got his monies worth going to the Wright State Clinic...that is why it is one of the best in this area and why we had the WSU staff working the stations...maybe we did get something correct.

You could have called and this could all have been avoided or better yet asked us the day you become frustrated to see how we would have handled it...now you have to come back and try it again Dec.27 and 28.

I see no attack (the comments toward OP in the original thread are more attack-like) - there's no time limit on comments about an event and it was brought up in another thread, not a thread started just to complain, and the post isn't all negative. It's just an opinion, not something that can be proven true or untrue. Others have posted their own alternative comments on the experience - that's the way it's supposed to work.

If every single person except one was happy, I'd call the event a success and move on. Many dream of that kind of success percentage.

I don't like the idea that if there is even one single unhappy camper, they shouldn't give their opinion. To me, the more you fight it, the poorer the image. To me, there are no sacred people/organizations who cannot be commented on. You put yourself out there, you take all comments.

The above is simply my personal opinion about posting about events.

Thank you Howard for re-posting the comment and highlighting it. Saved me the time to go back through it.

A product was offered and if you didn’t like the product don’t use it again. I read buyer reviews and product reviews as well as buyer feedback quite often I find it most useful.

I was at the clinic and I do not feel like I was cheated. I thought it was a nice opportunity for the kids to see a few great Olympic softball players. I was not impressed at all with the clinic part and there was far too much talking.

For the price I expected more professional instructors to be teaching, I am not implying that the instruction was poor, just too much money for non-professional instructors. I will pass on the next one as I feel the money would be better spent elsewhere.

I respect your opinion, which you are more than welcome to, and I'm not attacking, but I have never been to a hitting clinic with the quality of instructors like there was at this event...

Howard Carrier.....Hitting Instructor for 20+ years
Crystyl Bustos....3 time Olympian
Mike Larabee....D1 Coach at Wright State (2008 team was in the top 10 offensively in all of D1)
Leon Wood.....Long time hitting instructor in NW Ohio, who works with Don Slaught and Right View Pro
Sue Bowman....Head Coach at Indiana Wesleyan for 22 years
Mike Bastian....Chinese National Coach
Laura Berg.....4 time Olympian
.....and many more quality trained instructors, with years of experience.

I see where this is going....but at least we clarified things. It wasn't that there were
non-professional instructors
as you previously stated....

it was that you wanted....
more professional instructors

I guess thats only fair in today's society.;&

Weekend with the GOLD and SILVER!

Part TWO
We are pleased to announce the return of the Olympians!

Crystl Bustos, Jenny Topping and Lori Harrigan.

Lori Harringan one of the great all time left handed pitchers and three time Gold Medalist from UNLV will be leading the pitching portion of the clinic and Jenny Topping will be working with the catchers. Jenny is from Cal State Fullerton where she was the three-time Big West Conference Player of the Year and is a Gold and Silver medalist.

Crystl Bustos attended Palm Beach Community College and is considered by many to be the most feared fast pitch hitter in the World today and is a two time Gold medalist with one Silver medal.

Howard Carrier and Crystl will lead the hitting portion of the clinic both days.

Kings High School Fast Pitch and the Bustos Ultimates
Will host the clinic on December 27 & 28 from 9 AM till 4 PM

Saturday Time Cost Max # Participants

Hitting 9 am - 4 pm $100 80
Pitching 9 am - 4 pm $100 30
Catching 9 am - 4 pm $100 30

Sunday Time Cost Max # Participants

Hitting 9 am - 4 pm $100 80
Fielding 9 am - 4 pm $100 40

Sign up for both days for only $150 dollars!

The clinic will be conducted at the SWOBATS facility located at 9230 Port Union Rialto Rd, West Chester, Ohio 45069.

More information on how to register will be coming out this week so please mark your calendar for this clinic.

We will be doing autographs and pictures at the end of our sessions just like in the last clinic and we think everyone had an opportunity to get something signed and a photo with the Olympians.

This could be a great Christmas gift from the grandparents or other relatives for the kid who has everything and needs help with their skills!

That is indeed priceless!

Crystl is committed to spending more time in this part of the country to help our girls and the coaches better understand how to teach hitting and what it takes to become a champion. If you attended the last clinic we will be adding more to the agenda while building off the fundamentals from our previous clinics.

This is why we named the clinic:
Weekend with the GOLD and SILVER! Part Two

I have been to more than my share of camps/clinics over the last 15 years. I think the non-professional group of hitting instructors, had more knowledge than many of the professional hitting instuctors that we pay good money to teach our kids. I learned this the hard way with my oldest. Many of us have paid good money and found out what they were taught was wrong. We now have many sources on the internet to research what is now being taught. It is easy now to see who actually knows what they are talking about.
Non-Professional present, just to name a few .
Lady Knight
Bouldersdad
Hitter23
SWOBAT - new hitting instructor
We are not talking college kids working with your dd.
Lady Knight: non-professional, Travel coach and High school coach for many years. I will tell you this man spends more time learning about hitting than most Professionals .
I'm not sure you could find a camp or clinic with the amount of knowledge that was present at this clinic. About everyone I named above, was giving one on one hitting instructions with kids and parents at Lunch, or fielding many questions.
If we did anything wrong, perhaps we didn't post a list of who worked the clinic, along with the Professionals that were present.

Warning this is long and windy especially for the internet police word counters!

Every person that was at the camp has been trained by me personally and some have worked with me for over 5 years and I would not doubt their ability to teach and instruct hitting with most college coaches especially in the Southwest Ohio area as to hitting only. Their select teams did well, their high school teams have done well their boys and girls have done well in school and the ones in college are doing well of which we have over 61 currently.

I find it interesting that some of the college coaches who have believed hitting down on the ball or swinging level on the ball are starting to change to staying in the big zone and matching the plane of the pitch and you know who you are no matter what screen name you use!

We have been teaching more of a Team USA Swing since 2002 than ANYONE in this area and since we met and started working Crystl, so it is nice to be reading some are finally starting to see the light that have held to their convictions all these years as others have passed them by like WSU and are still defending their hand paths despite what Crystl and I have been teaching since 2002. In my opinion especially after 2004 games and then you saw Australia and Canada start to change.

None of the people helping us was paid, it was all volunteer work, they paid for their gas, hotel room and brought pop up nets and tees etc. Leon Woods stayed with me at our house. They are friends of Crystl and Howard and helped us to help you and are giving something back!

And the only money I got from it was $81 dollars in gas for running back and forth to the airport and to meetings as I do not even charge my students and have not for over 20 years. SWOBATS which is 501c and the Bustos Ultimate's team received the money and SWOBATS received the biggest portion. The Ultimates team received money because they worked the clinic cleaning the bathrooms, parking lot, registration serving food and supplied equipment etc.

Most hitting instructors weither they played in college or the pros command $90 dollars an hour and at minimum $45 an hour and you have to be the judge of what they know and if it is worth it, HOWEVER at $165 for 6 to 7 hours they, your daughters spent time with the Barry Bonds of female hitters, got to talk with her, get an autograph, get a picture learn some quality drills, understand balance and strength positions which they did not know before, so you might want to ask their current hitting instructor why they over looked that and that works out to $27.50 per hour. I would personally like to talk to your kids and ask them if the enjoyed it! I think I would get a different story from them. I think and feel very strongly Crystl and I got around to every station during those two days and came in contact with most of the kids and she signed autographs for over an hour and a half after the clinic.

Because we are renting the SWOBATS facility this time the price is down to $100 for the clinic on December 27 and 28...tell them this is what your daughter wants as a Christmas gift! So why you are having Thanksgiving dinner and the relatives and friends are there, tell them she wants a Week End with the Gold and Silver Part Two for Christmas!

My daughter loved the clinic and she got alot of help from different coaches and instructors. She also enjoyed meeting Jennie and Chrystal, but that was not why we were there it was to learn more about the game of softball from people that instuct at the next level. We could spend 40.00 for a half hour of hitting or fielding lessons, but we chose to spend less than 20.00 an hour for a whole day of hitting.Howard thank you for the great clinic and all you do for our daughters.Howard is not only a great hitting instructor but he is a wonderful person that my daughter has the utmost respect for.If you have never met the man take the time at one of his many clinics to meet him, by the way he donates his time for these clinics which I appreciate very much.

Please remember while you are enjoying time with your friends and family that the gift that keeps on giving is Dec.27 and 28...the Gold and Silver Part 2!

If you have been to our clinics you know we keep building on the basics so we establish the foundation from which the hitter builds on and we have a lot of kids in the system to demonstrate it is working at all the levels....high school, travel ball, NAIA through Div.1 and at the International Softball Federation level.

We look forward to seeing you again and to meeting the new kids, parents and coaches also.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

by far the best clinic to attend.. have been to numerous college hitting clinics this year with only players helping out and instructing , howard by far exceeds all....each instructer is trained by howard and you get alot more individualized attention... come prepared to learn and get better.... dont be afraid to stay in the big zone !!

Turkey day and black Friday are over so lets start getting the registration forms coming in....hopefully your friends and relatives are going to give the gift that keeps giving and an opportunity to meet some great athletes and players!

Crystl brings her unique talent to not only show you how she does it but also to explain why she does it a certain way and why we feel it works from travel ball through the NPF and MLB. The more you hear how and why she does it makes you think about how your daughter is being taught now and hopefully we can fill in the missing pieces.

WE answered a lot of questions from the bleachers as to why some of your daughters coaches teach it a certain way, SO bring that coach with you and maybe we can answer some more questions and they can pick up a few more pointers as to why we do not swing level or down on the ball or lay our bat flat or lean backwards or roll our lead shoulder in more than 12 degrees.

And the question of the day is why do we step with a flexed front leg when throwing and hitting?

Send request for registration form to:

Mary Ellen Bonner at mebonner@cinci.rr.com or

Marcia Wyrick at xstitchncrafts@sbcglobal.net
You can also pm the information to me here and I will email the registration form to you.

Remember space is limited. Cost is $100.00 for one day and $150.00 for both. Price includes a clinic T-shirt.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the clinic!

Building a swing: RVP

A big part of going to a hitting clinic is having a way to get follow up instruction, and or your questions answered.

Part 2 of the clinic will build on things you learned in part 1 for students that can move forward.

Part 1 will be given to 1st time students.

The great thing about learning this high level swing, is most of the instructors frequent this website.
Some college clinics promote it.
Some instructors here in Ohio teach it.

Its a prov-en swing, and your batting avg will go up if you practice the drills.
It will be money well spent.

Straight Leg...you are correct as laying the foundation to swing mechanics is what we try to do at every clinic and we want those who have been there before to keep learning more. We will try and group the more advanced hitters so we can keep them learning more. When I see those players we can switch them around at the stations very quickly so that will not be an issue.

Of course the foundation of balance, strength, grip and stance by getting a good two eyed look at the ball will be gone over with those that have never attended one of our clinics.

We will as we always have answer any questions the parents or players have about why or how we do what we do as to hitting techniques or drills.

To my knowledge we have been the only ones to point out the difficulty in teaching the female athletes why they do not flex their legs enough when landing, hitting and throwing to prevent ACL injuries and we do answer ALL the questions when asked.

Hope to see you there.

Wow- it is a shame that we no longer can post an opinion on this forum without the same goons that have apparently gotten a-hold of the purple cool-aid that jim jones served comming to the rescue and tearing apart anyone and everyone that even dares to speak out aginst something the allmighty is apart of. Give me an f-n break

Someone came on here and felt like they wasted $30 bucks on a clinic so I commented on my feelings of wasteing over $200. Facts- the pitching part of the clinic was a waste of time- unless you didn't mind paying to meet Jenny Finch- over 3 hours of nothing but hearing her stories- sorry to put it so blunt for some of you on here that can not handle the truth .

As stated in my earlier post - yes Howard was winded and YES he admits it so not shocker there. They were focused on hitting- wow that sounds allmost like a good thing

$200 + is alot of money and yes you are paying for the olympians and not the instruction
Fact - you can go to the wright state clinic and get the same instruction and Howard will be there for only $75 so you tell me.

Get over yourselves- there is nothing wrong with my post or my opinion

What does the organization have to do with anything? Who gives a what team I'm with- you seem infatuated with this fact .

It was My opinion and not the 14-u opinion. Where did 14 u come from where do you see in my post anything about 14 u.
