I wish that I could have found a way to get my daughter to church and a youth group more than we did during her travel ball years.

1. Let her be more of a kid and enjoy her summers more than just softball.

I think my dd is too young for me to actually give any tried and true advice. But, Hitter's comment has always been my biggest worry in regards to my dd playing softball year round, starting so young. I know it takes time and dedication to be good at anything, but I think most of us struggle in trying to figure out exactly what the difference is between too much or too little.

Then why are you on here?!

I'm on here because it asked what I would have done different. I said what I would've done. I let my daughter make her choices though . We have squeezed family vacations in, but we are still very much involved with travel ball. My daughter still plays and we run very successful tournaments. Looking back though, I would have loved more vacation time when the kids were little. So now you know.

Not sure I would have changed much of what we did. Most likely I would delegate team responsibilities a little more for stuff like fundraising, hotels, accounting, uniforms etc. to parent volunteers.

My wife and I were blessed to have many years of good times meeting new families and friends when DD was playing.
Our oldest DD was 18 when younger DD started playing so she worked and took care of the dog most weekends but would go to one or two events usually Nashville, Chicago or Pigeon forge type tournaments. Yeah, there was the occasional bump in the road but overall it was a good experience.
We were able to make most weekends vacation weekends and when she started traveling more out of state we were getting to locations a day or two early or staying a day or so later to relax. (Really nice this time of year in the Tennessee events or summers in Chicago).

(It was also a different time in the sport).

I feel for todays parents... tournament cost have doubled and in some cases tripled, entry fees for fans, hotel stay to play, parking, no tailgating at a lot of the parks etc. Having more than one kid playing a travel sport in todays environment can hit the family budget hard and in some cases mom goes one way and dad goes the other trying to stretch their kids sporting dollar and attend as many events as they can.

One thing; I would have started saving money when the DD was born to pay for the expenses incurred from lessons and travel ball. Other than that; not a thing as many lessons were learned from all our experiences that helped mold DD into who she is today. Also, along the way we met many new friends. I'm not sure I would ask for more than already received.
