I really can't believe that many people would think to mention my name, but I'm very humbled and very honored to have been mentioned, along with the rest of these fine coaches.

I would just like to add a few things that come to mind when I think about a good coach or just a coach or leader in general... I really only have experience to talk from the 16U or 18U level, so I'm sure there are many fine coaches at the other age levels.

As a coach, thinking about other coaches, and trying to say who is good and who might be so so, is a very fine line. As people mentioned, You can have a Good Coach with below avg players and you are going to most likely be a below avg team! You may have a below avg Coach but he/she may know how to get 12 - 14 VERY talented girls to play on one team, that team will most likely be a pretty good team! It's not always the coach, but I believe with all my heart, that a "GOOD" Coach can make a difference in a young persons life.... I believe sports has a HUGE impact on a kids life. People or Coaches that have CLASS, INTEGRITY, LOYALTY and HONOR are the people we want coaching our daughters.... To me it doesn't really matter if they are a bad coach, avg coach, good coach, great coach as long as they are Honest, Caring, and an all around Genuine Person with INTEGRITY & CLASS, because thats what I would want my daughter to learn from her coaches while growing up. (JMO)

1. As a Head Coach you are truely only as good as the people you have around you and assisting you. As someone mentioned earlier.... Phil Marcantonio. Phil is a Great coach but he will even tell you that he lacks some aspects to be named " GREATEST COACH"...Anyhow if you mention Phil, as a coach, you better mention: Todd Arney, Jim Berger and Chuck Ferrell because without those 3 guys helping Phil, he is just a "good" coach, BUT with those guys, He is/was or should be considered one of the best coaches we have in OH! Again He had GREAT players.... I think what made Phil was taking those core girls from 11 years old and combining players year in and year out and the practices he ran was what made Phil one of the Best coaches in my mind....

2. I would like to throw a couple names into the ring as some of the BEST teachers of the game!
The first is Elliott Thompson who coaches the Ohio Bandits. He gets the most out of his girls every year. He might not do things the "normal" way, BUT he does things the "RIGHT" way! I have a 2 year old daughter and I would not say this about too many people... But I hope she gets the chance to learn some softball from Elliott.

Another name is Dave Camp. Again, people may not like him or agree with what he does all the time, BUT he will teach your daughter softball fundamentals.

Dave Beckham from the Ohio Classics is another Great Coach. He believes in the "RIGHT" values and teaches fundamentals and life skills for his young student athletes.

I can go on and on about coaches but I think the person that we are looking for is only found in a fairy tale. I do believe there are a few "Total Package Coaches" out there but very few are far between!

Just to add 1 more thing... I honestly believe there might be more Assistant Coaches that need to be recognized because like I said before..... With out them you are just another coach. As a Head Coach, surround yourself with Assistants that are: smarter than you, have more class than you, know more about softball than you, and have more discipline, character and INTEGRITY than you. They will make the Head Coach come out smelling like roses....
