Who are the best coach's in Ohio ?

Dave Murphy has my vote.........

homer! ;&:lmao:

but, whats funny about that is when we started playing rec ball in Pickerington, Murph's name may have been thrown around a bit (eventually, it all ended up being girls who didn't/don't really play much now anyways, so it was biased), and i specifically remember being run off the field to his rec team one afternoon and was thinking I was in way over my head (still am). Then, I was blessed to have his older daughter pitch for us, an so mind is racing cause she was good, and two, how do I get to be the HEAD coach if his ego was reported to be as big as the rumors. Well, it couldn't have been further form the truth. I can measure a man by his kids, and his DD's are just fantastic kids. And i can judge a coach by the players and parents on that team and what they say off the field and in the hotels waiting for the waffle machine to beep ready (and if you've ever stayed in a hotel with Statman, you know that's probably happened) Murph all the way!

and speaking of ego, some of these guys on the list are pretty egotistical (and no, I wont say!), but does being an elite coach make you more prone to be a jackass? Or does the success of your teams just turn you into one? kinda like the pretty girl who has always been told she's pretty and she's pretty much a scab to be around, the princess type. I believe a great coach has to be able to do the drills, the coaching during game time and not be so standoffish. I think some of us are basing these lists on how many rants on the field they've had and how they posture themselves next to the tournament brackets.

Nevertheless, i love the topic. Loved playing against Johnnies, and meeting him in person and talking with him a few times during breaks sealed the deal. I don't care if his team wins 5 games, he could coach my little one anytime. and cgs, definitely. I'm failing to mention some other pretty good ones, but the good ones know who they are because THEY AREN'T JACKASSES

I too will nominate Howard...results are in the track record.

For "someone to be on the list of great coaches to be"... Kavin Morgan. His practices are one of a kind and those that know him, his assistants, teachings, knowledge, and team can speak to this. And the work ethic he instills in his players are unreal. All of his girls want to work hard for him and he explains the goals and the players fall in-line.

I also like John Miller of the DOOM. He will continue to do great things.

Not sure how to spell his name but I think a coach named Jeff esenbrant is probably the best kept secret in NWO. He is always teaching his players and is what I would consider a student of the game. I have watched him coach many times and I have never seen him lose his cool. I have seen his teams beat or @ least hang with some of the better teams around. I wish my kid would have been able to play for him. Hopefully when my nieces are old enough a few of them will be able to play for him. I am pretty sure his team made it to the USA/ASA a few years ago. Even if he wouldn`t be considered as a head coach of an Ohio team he is one a smart coach would want on his staff.

I think there are a tremendous amount of very good coaches out there with organizations that fly under the radar. A good coach not only knows the game & techniques, but also knows people.

-Truly high level coaches may not be the best when it comes to the game, but they are definitely the best when it comes to knowing their players, knowing how they think, react and what motivates them.

-A great coach knows their own limitations and brings in others to compliment their own talents.

-A great coach is always willing to take the blame for a loss and give the credit to the players for a win.

- A great coach is in it for the kids success and not their own ego

- A great coach doesn't need to recruit the best players, they make them!

- A great coach understands that there is far more to life than their sport and supports their players endeavors to discover it.

- A great coach is initially perceived as mean by some and in the end is extended family to most.

Using the above criteria I can name you a whole lot of coaches in Ohio that will never make this list, but they sure deserve to. JMHO

Happy New Year to All!!!

Terry Morman of the 18u Stingrays fits this perfectly. We had 7 of the girls on this team last year sign their NLI this past fall. My DD considers Terry a mentor. He went above and beyond what we (parents) expected of him. When my DD signed her NLI, Terry drove up from Columbus to where we live (about 120 miles) to be at the signing, my daughter was more then surprised to see him.

So, after being in this for many years, I would say I have run across a bunch of good coaches. Ones that balance knowledge, ability to put things in perspective, how they treat the girls and know the strategy of the game.

So based on all of that, I would say from what I have seen - Doug of the Doom 95 gets alot of respect from me. They are well coached, disciplined and have beaten us a bunch, both when I was with the Lasers and with Championship.

I personally like Glen Widner and although we have not played against him or for him, I believe in his values, knowledge of the game and his pure love for the sport.

Anyway - cant wait till the thaw.

Coach Murph

ps - my favority player is guess who majerpaine?

If anyone has seen EMR96, watch how they play and how they respect and listen to their coach. I would say TIM BARRETT.

Some coaches just assemble talent and get called great when in fact they were blessed with great players, but really don't make them better. A great coach will actually teach the girls to get better and will help them improve all season, and they will end the season better then they started it.

In my opinion Cliff Philen is one of those coaches. A great teacher and coach.

I would also like to give props to Jamie Wolff of the Wolfpack. Jamie does an outstanding job with his teams and his organization and he knows how to run top notch tournaments.

Howard and Bustos with Tangy Mike as Head Coach is a threesome that would bring EVERYTHING to the table.

Mike & Howard, go wrangle the big girl and announce try-outs.

Yes, the Philens are great folks. But I think Cliff is enjoying coaching the younger DD too much to be pulled away... :)

How much do you think this coach should be paid???

None.......These coaches should be doing it for the love and passion of the game. The lessons these coaches are teaching these girls on and off the field and helping to get these girls college schollarships is their pay and bonus.
