Why does a team have to play in the NSA state

I am just curious. Not sure if this is the policy for ASA. Last year my dd team won a tournament and received a bid the the Eastern Nationals in York, PA. Did not have to play in a ASA state tournament. Why does a team have to play in the NSA state in order to go to the NSA World Series. Does not make sense that one ruling body would require this but another does not.

Any info would be appreciated

In PA you have to play in state tourney to validate any WS berths, but i agree with most of you greed

Basically, yes it is money. But NSA does have it in their by-laws.

Section 4 The following is a list of the ways teams may qualify to participate in Super Regional or World Series tournaments:

b. A registered team of the National Softball Association which qualifies either through qualified league or tournament must also participate in the state championship in order to validate the berth.

i would think, besides money, is to make sure the teams that enter a world series are legit--this makes sure that team Q, who hosted their own tourney and were awarded a berth, still have to play at states--although, i can see that it still wouldn't stop a team from going, even if they went to states and laid an egg....

but from what other criteria would NSA allow teams to qualify? in the end, a state tourney isn't so bad, plus it allows the teams to "gear up" and get ready for the upcoming competition

It is all about the $$$$$$ of course. Others are the same as well.

What really gets me is that NSA says "you must play in the NSA state" unless of course you are willing to play in an indoor alternate state during the winter. This makes no sense to me at all. I am all for indoor tournament during the winter and they do serve a purpose. However as an alternate state I think it is not approporiate. Also if they are going to offer alternate state tournaments at all then they should be spread out around the state a little bit more. Just my opinion.

USSSA also requires attendence at their state tourney.

Are you sure? I didnt think they did, but I could be wrong would not be the first time ;D Of course maybe why it isnt a big deal in USSSA is because they have more then one state tournament.

You've been around the block a time or two Ohio Wave. The Spano Dome wasn't the only alt state site this year. It was an experiment that may or may not have panned out. Who knows.

OhioWave, I am with you 100%. The "alternate states" weren't advertised very well either. I asked NSA how the various teams were supposed to know about the indoor tournaments and they said "they left if up to the tournament directors to advertise". Nice.

wgman21 I contacted NSA and was told that the indoor tournament was the only alternate state. Just going by what we were told. Look I have no probelm with Spano Dome holding qualifiers. If the sanctioning bodies want to do that then it is up to them. I just think that where NSA is concerned they have a zero tolerance policy on teams having to attend their state tournament in order to attend the NSA World Series. I would have no problem with that if that was it. I personally do not like the whole idea of alternate state and especially think that an indoor event should not be a substitue. Just my opinion. We really wanted to attend the NSA world Series in Columbus this summer but we were committed to play GAPSS on the same weekend. When we asked what alternatives were available we were told NONE. Then we find out that there were alternatives and in fact one of them was run indoors. I have to admit that caused me to change my opinion about NSA. Because of that we decided not to play any NSA events this season. Maybe that will change next year.
