10U Preseason poll

Thank you...Sorry I started this thread. Didn't know it would get this bad in this age division. They are just little girls that want to have fun and learn something.

Don't apologize. This age division is probably the toughest. I know I was one of the crazy ones, only I didn't post my thoughts all of the time. Girls are coming mostly from rec and the parents think their daughters are all that because that is what they were use to. That leads to alot of dirty talk because eyes are being opened. At 12U, reality starts to set in, and hopefully by 14U every parent knows and understands their daughters place.

Sorry Gene,

I ask the question if Venom was a 9u team. I've never heard of them? Read this post. All this over asking if a team was a 9u team or not. Did I say anything bad about North Coast or the girls? And neither team has the same softball history winning big tournaments as the Lasers or Stingrays is that wrong to say? Those coaches, players and parents worked hard to build there reputation by putting in the hard work, playing in the tough tournaments year in year out and traveling all over the country playing the best teams they could play. And there are plenty of others who I failed to mention. This is my third time through so I know about the time, effort, work, and money spent building them wasn't easy! I never said either club wouldn't or couldn't do the same thing in time. It wasn't earned by just being loud on OFC! This is why I never joined with OFC in the past. It was the RenMad who took offense when I ask the 9u question. Then started talking about how " there dd " made the lasers as a pitcher but turned us down. Then went on to say bring it on challenging us. Then saying let the games begin and someone didn't like sharing the spot light. Was all that called for? And Really what spot light? The one you shine on yourself? I wasn't looking for any spot light I was trying to find out whom all the top 10u teams were and to share my thoughts on teams I've seen play just like the post ask. Was that wrong? Go back and look at the "just" of all the post and see who you really think sparked this fury. Sorry to our coach if I upset you and what I said has no reflection on the coaches feeling obviously. Also I thought OFC was a place to state your opinion . And this poll was created to state your opinion and rank teams where we thought they fit. I guess not. Sorry again Gene.

Here are some good rules of thumb:
  • Don't talk up your team, let others do it for you.
  • Don't talk down about another team, what good does it accomplish?
  • Whenever possible - win or lose, give credit to other teams and coaches
OFC and fastpitch softball is a small and tight community, relax and enjoy the ride.

You asking the question was perfectly fine, and the thread was heading in an acceptable direction in the beginning. I don't even mind a little good natured chest-thumping as long as everyone keeps it in perspective. The key is that we don't do it at the expense of someone else. Everyone is here because they or someone they love enjoys the GAME of fastpitch softball. That doesn't mean that everyone is playing at the same level, but that's okay as long as everyone is enjoying the sport and improving.

10U travel is a very difficult age. For most girls this is their first really competitive experience; for many parents this is also uncharted territory - they have to figure out how to help their daughter in an environment that they have very little control over and where their daughter may be learning how to handle failure for the first time. They have to trust a coach that they may have met for the first time at tryouts. Many of the girls and parents are also interacting for the first time; naturally there is an element of fear involved. The difference in athletic ability between an eight year old and a nine year old can be large; the difference between a ten year old and an eight can be insurmountable.

The key thing to remember as you begin what may be a journey of thirteen to fourteen years is that as a parent you need to be there to support your daughter and help her through the rough spots. Not everyone who picks up a bat can be a Bustos, just like everyone who learns to pitch will not be another Finch. Enjoy the time because it goes by all too fast.

Venom 10U is a young team this season. The Fastpitch for Freedom was our first tournament together, and we did play the North Coast Spirit team in the Championship game. They did have a stud catcher, and a very solid team all around. Both teams had injuries, and still the girls all fought til the end, and never gave up.

We did go out to Marion, which was our first time on the dirt together as a team, still learning. We went there to work on skills, and improve our pitching and catching, along with our bat speed. We took those games back home, and worked hard at practice the following week, and it paid off for us at the tourney.

It was a nice weekend of softball, enjoyed playing the Spirit team, and the coaches were very classy. Most of all, it was nice to teach the girls, how competitive you can become as a team with hard work and dedication, as well as all the teams and coaches coming out and supporting our troops!!

Look forward to next season with all the 10U teams, and best of luck.

Dont twist my words. I didnt say I shot down the lasers. I was actually giving lee much props. He was so nice I also said how amazing the laser team looked when we went to the meet and greet. There was no disrespect from me. Being her first year in travel i let dd decide and she went with the uniforms she thought were the prettiest..(typical 10yr old) lol so no there was not much strategy to it.....

This is my last post. Laserlady01 you came off very neg. You said things about a lot of teams that were offended. They can't go back and read them because they deleted them. Maybe you didnt mean to come off like you did, but that is why Lee posted an apology in your honor... (great guy)

There is a long winter ahead. Hard work will show in the spring. I wish all the teams good luck. I like watching good games!!!

From 10U polls with all the hype and chest-thumping to -12U with 1/2 as much and some compliments thrown to other teams to -14U with everyone falling over themselves to say how good the other teams are to -16U, where nobody cares about the poll at all. Gotta love the progression. Just wish we would have been a better team when we were 10U so I could have told everyone how great we were!

A spot on analysis IMO.

BH97 is right on the money. As you progress through the age groups as a coach (and most parents) you figure out there is no reason to put a bullseye on your back. Just keep your head down and hope your girls play hard and let the results speak for themselves!

While I have only played/seen 5 of your 13, I think there are some teams that maybe should be left off and some that should be added and the best team I have played thus far has been Stingrays followed by Ohio Storm, but the Storm beat the Rays heads-up last weekendso, who knows???? I can tell you they are both very fundementally sound and will not beat themselves.

I'd agree with Matt.

Take my team, athletically in my mind we match up with anybody and IMO most games I have the best player on the field But...lol, I have 5 kids coming from Rec and in a few cases the lowest level Rec., also nobody on my team is use to playing teams like the Storm and Stingray's. We also have 2 pitchers blessed with physical gifts but inexperience. It's on me, there is no reason we shouldn't be a top team come summer, ive got a off season plan in place using our indoor facility, my 2 pitchers are set up with a pitching coach that has had unparalleled success in NWO with 10 & 12 year olds...so if we still aren't a top 10 team after the summer everybody knows who to blame :)

Completely agree especially the Muskie Chix. Their pitching is definitely one to watch. While we have played only some of these teams, Muskie chix definitely stand out on your list to me.

ditto for Valley Extrem - we have only played fall ball, some friendly's, scrimmages and the Dover tournament which means we are still putting girls where we think they need to be and trying different things as everyone else is --- muskie chix prob the best we have seen so far too Steph. we played them in Dover but with no stealing home and no drop 3rd strike in that lil tourney; you cant count those for anything. (but the money we took home will come in handy for new uniforms!) We still are looking for another pitcher too! :) if anyone is interested in private tryout PM me! :D

should be a competitive year and looking forward to seeing you all on the fields!!!

I've seen 8 of the top 13 teams on the list play. It would be hard to rank them at this point, nearly impossible to do so accurately. - Lasers Green, Hawks, Marion, North Coast, Stingrays, Storm, Vipers, and (us) Buckeye Heat-Gill

My opinion is they all seem to be well coached, and can beat each other on any given Sunday. Should be a great summer!!! Good Luck to all!!!
