We have played against this girl and let me tell you, she is the real deal. The is the best hitter that I have ever seen and I have been doing this for a long time.

Congrats to Championship Fastpitch on its win over Buckeye Heat 95. We hit the ball well enough and took an early lead but our defense let Championship into the game in the fourth and fifth. Championship made the defensive mistakes hurt. Thus ended the momentum that we hoped had been established through our 3-1 pool play, which resulted in a #6 seed.

As has always been our experience with the Stingrays tournament (which goes back 8 years now), this tournament staffed by parent volunteers trumps anything that is professionally managed. Trash is picked up, fields are raked and lined before every game, and information relating to weather delays and schedule changes takes advantage of all available technology. We did, however, see some strange umpiring suggesting that the pressure for umpires created by the Showdown event and the Stingrays event resulted in some crews that had limited experience with ASA fastpitch. The strange calls were sometimes for us, sometimes against, and sometimes made in games we were simply watching.

We were sorry that we couldn't spend Sunday play at Beekman, where our girls could have gotten a whiff of a showcase that attracts many college coaches, but what are you going to do about the weather . . .

Great to meet some OFCers and revisit friends previously met. And there was some great 14U softball taking place out in Picktown. Undoubtedly more is taking place as we "speak".
