I don't mind that my dd will have to try out or compete, I think she will welcome that challenge. I do know there are a couple of girls that could influence her decision on whether to stay or go. She really bonded with a couple who say they are unsure what they want to do. Coach was fine, not really that issue. Not sure she is playing at the highest level she could, maybe tryout for elite level and not even get a look. Maybe she is better in one coaches eye than in another, there again, depends on level of athlete on that particular team or at that tryout.

Just saying that it would be nice to have more of an open conversation about the team with the coaches and parents, if every position is open, so be it. if you plan on keeping a core of players at their positions, so be it. If you have some that you definitely don't want back, so be it. And then it is up to us as parents to talk to our dd's about what they want, they should in my opinion have the biggest input.

As a parent I would prefer a coach tell you straight up 1 of 3 answers. All are acceptable, 2 are painful to hear, but I prefer the truth to BS any day.
1.) I want your DD back.
2.) I don't want her back.
3.) You need to come to try outs. (Meaning if they find someone better then you don't get asked back)

I guess you can add a 4th. I want your kid back, but can the mother start bringing her to all team events (LOL)

Right on the money!

Also on another side note, as your dd gets older try outs are less important. At 10u most girls are new to the sport, but by the time you are 14u you have seen the same group of girls so many times at tournaments you are at that you know most of them by name. The coaches are very familiar with who players in their age group and know how they play. Private try outs are more and more popular in the older age groups. At least this has been my experience.

Hit that one on the head joboo1drew.... I know of alot of coaches who have seen the girl(s) play since they were in 10u.... And told the girls, who say are now in 16u, "you dont even need to try out, we have a spot reserved for you"...
