So what's the consensus out there regarding batting gloves? Like 'em or hate 'em? Have a favorite brand? Do you switch types of gloves in cold weather?(or maybe only wear bg's when it's cold?) Some brands make claims that their brand helps you hit/swing better..do you find that to be the case in any particular type? Why do some players only wear one?

I know "UPPER-HAND" makes a set of gloves that will line up your knuckles when you wear them on both hands. I have a couple of girls who swear by them and they happen to be great hitters. I also have a girl who wears Mizuno gloves which are padded. She says they take away the bat sting.

...the turboslots have the thumb pads to help line up your knuckles, but my daughter started wearing them because of a certain young lady's signature (initials 'CB')...come to think of it, that's why I started wearing them at age 42... ;D

My DD is 13 and has never liked the feel of batting gloves. Next year she will be playing HS ball, and we all know how the spring weather is here in Ohio. She may have to try and get use to them, or put up with some stinging hands next spring.
I know personally that I wore them as a kid for 2 reasons. During the summer, it was so warm that I would start to sweat and lose grip of the bat so I started wearing one on my left hand. The other, and biggest reason, was while I had my glove on. This kept my usually, much bigger glove, on my hand, while I made all those spectacular defensive plays.

Lady Knights - those were the two biggest reasons I wore them too. Another reason was to take care of my hands while playing - hitting (plus hours and hours of batting practice ::)), sliding, etc. If you're practicing year round and often, taking LOTS of hitting instruction & hitting practice, and then playing hard, your hands can take a beating thru all of that. In my high school baseball days during the season I did not put in "half" as much work as my 11u daughter puts into it now (in the off season), and my hands were still blistered and scraped up a lot. Being a guy though, I did not mind that much then, but it seems sorta silly to put my girl thru that.

She is using Easton VRS gloves, they have padded palms. She did not like them at first because of the padding but they have broken in now and she likes them, has a firm solid grip and feel, and the vibrations from a poor connection do not seem to rattle as bad. Hitting 2-3 times a week in the off season, it seems to matter to her, fwiw.
