Confused by Laser Nation's switching

I really dont think at this point, that NSA should be able to breeze in and take advantage and charge 150 + teams a sanction fee. Thats a nice chunk of change. Alot of these teams entered on the basis of this being a ASA tourney and shouldnt have to be fleeced a additional fee after the fact.

My DD's team was thrilled to have Laser Nation on the schedule this year with it's 6 plus guaranteed games against some very solid competition. Playing in Columbus is easy and they see this tournament as one of the highlights of the summer. To me, its about the competition and the number of games they will get to play. ASA, NSA, PGF, USSSA, etc- does it really matter?
The extra cash they will have to pay for the NSA sanctioning fee works out to about 3 walking tacos and a Starbucks Latte per player. Whatever-they want to play in this tourney!

Very good point!

Are you kidding me??? NSA didnt walk in and take over! It's the Laser's tournament and they establish the governing sanction. Pretty sure the teams entered for competetion/college exposure potential and not the sanctioning body! If the NSA sanction fee is going to break your team, then you have bigger problems. You may want to consider another tournament that you have already sanctioned with so it is within your budget.

Even if every team was not sanctioned NSA, your only talking $3,750, but I'm sure there are teams that are getting sanctioned NSA due to scheduling a NSA tournament this season.

Like Mike said...we don't have to purchase insurance through NSA so the cost of $25 is a drop in the bucket. I understand the point of everyone indicating that this should have been addressed at the onset....but it is now guaranteed to have 2 umps per game. Bottom line is the reason teams play this is for the competetion AND amount of games that are played. I see no problem unless when we play there is only 1 ump per game. A bigger deal is being made out of this than it needs to be.

Like potatoskins alluded to, theres more to it than the fee. And Im pretty sure were ok financially, but thanks for the concern. Next time, dont take things out of context, read the thread before popping off your pie hole

AND the sanction of this tournament WILL eventually dictate which college coaches decide to show up!!! Might not be this year, but it will affect this showcase.

Why yes, my team is. I didnt know someone could be that passionate about NSA to resort to insults right off the bat.

Typical HITTER23 ? That would insinuate you know me, that, or you follow me around which is just creepy.

There is no doubt that this tournament will lose some of the pizzaz if you will do to the typical 2nd rate status of NSA (My own personal reasons and experience). This tournament was advertised as an ASA tournament. Any extra fees to play should be waived from the original entry fee and paid by the tournament. Where are all of these NSA umpires coming from? Like Lady Knights said earlier.....If going out of state to get NSA umps why not get ASA umps? Potatoskins also made some great points as did Chris! Hope this isn't a black eye to laser nation because we love this tournament!

Colleges mainly take note of sanctions for championship play because it is a good indicator of the level of play. Most of the prestigious showcases (i.e. Boulder, Diamond 9, Surf City, etc.) weren't sanctioned prior to this year. When it comes to showcase events, colleges go by a combination of past experience, teams entered and how many players they're following will be there. A showcase's sanction will only affect it's status if it discourages desirable teams from entering it.

I'm keeping my "pie hole" shut (for once) but the creepy comment is just plain funny!

The real problem here is the whole "Showcase" **** right from the start, its turned into another money maker for some out there. You can work the system and get your kid into college without spending thousands of dollars on travelling all over the country.
Have you guys added up all the dollars you will spend on travel ball in fees, gas, hotels, food, etc over the years. Do the math people, you can probably pay for college with the money you spend LOL.

My biggest complaint with N$A is they require you to attend States to secure your bid. Maybe since Mike took a position with N$A the tourneys have improved, but many of you didn't attend the many disastrous N$A tourneys they put on several years ago!! Attend and win a National Qualifier...then be forced to attend a State tourney that no one would have attended if they hadn't been forced to...and then have to play in deplorable conditions, on baseball fields with mounds, no grounds crews to maintain fields, etc!! Things like this don't sit well with me and I don't forget easily..and up to this point N$A has done nothing in Ohio to change this!!

All of you saying we don't care about the sanction...how many N$A tourneys are you playing in this year. Are any of your teams playing in N$A Nationals???

True, I can save a ton of money and not wear out my car, but I can't buy those memories of spending those hot sweaty days watching dd play ball while we visit some great towns, drive thru some dumps, meet great people, argue with umps, taste the dirt in the air, hate the 4am wake up, and just enjoy life. BESIDES, if my dd is one of the talented skilled players who goes on to play college ball, it's another bragging right in my book.

You got me on that one Lady Knights. :) We try to keep our schedule limited to ASA, ASA/USA or PGF. We are only playing in 2 NSA tournaments this year, one this past fall and the Spano Dome tournament a couple weeks ago. We did qualify for NSA A Nationals but are not attending, we are going to ASA instead....unless we qualify for ASA/USA.

I agree, I do not like having to attend NSA States to secure your bid....the tournament win should be enough.

I beg to fiffer, the teams and the players in the tournament will determine which coaches decide to show up. Most big showcases are not even sanctioned. The only time the sanctiong really matter is for Nationals like PGF or ASA versus all the others. Look st applications like team NJ and Stingrays they ask where you played and what Nationals not who santctioned the Showcase. NSA will not be running the tournament the Lasers TD will be running it. My guess it it would be hard to make it PGF due to it being new to Ohio and not having enough umpires. I am not privy to any information but I can read between the lines. ASA is not happy that PGF is moving in and you can figure out the rest.
