Throughout my travels to all 4 corners of the state GAPSS has been the LEADER when it came to accomidating 10U Fastpitch teams. I know it was common place 4, 5, 6 years ago, for there to be as many as 8-12 teams participating at the 10U level @ GAPSS, with teams such as the Lasers, Stingrays, Doom and Compuware being regulars.
10U travel fastpitch is where it all starts for the highly competitive teams and hopefully with the effort that Mike and the GAPSS committee have given, there will once again be a full allotment of teams in 2009, and girls fastpitch will remain strong for the future here in Ohio!!!

Bink44 I think that one of the things that happened to cause some 10U teams not to attend GAPSS was the price just got to be too high. Remember these younger teams play 5 to 7 more tournaments then most of the older teams and they have to be able to spread their money around a little bit. I have seen the same thing happen at Stingrays. I do not think it has that much to do with avoiding competition, it has more to do with spreading out the limited funds. At $495.00 for one tournament at th 10U level it is a little steep. I give the people at GAPSS a lot of credit for recognizing this and lowering the cost to attract (and hook) these younger teams for years to come. It will pay off in spades for them over the long haul.

I agree with your above post. Hopefully I didn't come across as meaning that any teams are avoiding the competition, because that was never my intent. I just listed a few of the top programs that have participated in the past and hopefully even more top programs will attend in the future. Even the mid level travel teams should seriously consider GAPSS at the 10U level, especially if they are interested in challenging their individual teams and seeing what is out there.
I remember very clearly when I first got back into girls Fastpitch in 2002 with my 2 oldest DD's, how advanced girls Fastpitch had become since the 80's. We were at Spano Dome in Feb 2002 and I thought they (DD's) were well prepared and then we played the Pitts Spirit and Pitts Power and I watched the Indy Dreams play and I realized that we had a lot of work ahead of us...lol. The pitching at 10U that year was like nothing I had seen before and it made all of us (parents, players and coach's) much more aware once we left our back yard.

I am both disappointed and pleased to make this announcement.
Due to lack of interest, the GAPSS Board has decided to eliminate the 18Over division from the tournament. However, this decision has allowed us to expand the 16U and 18U teams by 6 teams each. We had several teams on waiting lists which I have reached out to and offered spots, but even with that we still have 3-4 openings left in each age group.

WOW...From 12-18U this is a regular "who's who" of Ohio Fastpitch!!! Now I'm really looking forward to seeing as many friends/teams that I can this weekend. Too bad the semi's and championship games couldn't be at the same park, as this would be some awsome games to be mingling around watching.

Lee that is a great idea but I don't think I could pull it off. Everything runs to different schedules come Sunday.
Good news though, made a couple changes to the team list above. 1 more 18U spot left and 6 10U. Glad to have the Stingrays 10U joining the tourney. I am still pretty confident we can fill up 10U.
