Won't say when, what day, what weekend, what event, what year, or what team... so don't PM me to ask.

I guess its now ok to heckle a 12 year old girl while she plays in the outfield. And this was before any plays occurred in the outfield, in fact, no balls were even capable or reaching the outfield so no real reason to fuss or debate a play. Just a grown man having his way heckling a child playing softball. Wooow. Been holding this one for awhile and wanted to throw it out there.

I've gotta say, that's pretty classless. Ranks right up there with coaches/parents who yell to their pitcher, "Pitch another one just like that. She's not swinging. You've got her scared." Irritates me when they try to get into a little kids' head like that. Grow up!

Seriously GROW UP people. They are children!

As much as I hate the so called adults that do that I hate the coach of a team who lets his/her parents act like that. I've seen coaches tell parents to shut up or kid is off team and that is how it should be handled.

LES...Is it someone I know??? Come on, you can tell me buddy. :D

Not trying to be a smarta$$ because I would not do it personally and I really do think it's bush, but at what age is it okay to heckle a player? It happens in HS, college, etc....

It is never OK to heckle a player in youth sports.........

And we had it happen last year at Worlds. Thankfully none of the hotheaded dads found out until later. I can only imagine what would have transpired.

They were telling the LF girl not to miss it....and back up...run in......balh blah blah

It is just PATHETIC.

With that said I have been to a couple of tournaments this year and parents have been extremely civil. Maybe this is the year everyone gets the message........:)

I don't think it is ever okay to heckle a player including pro's but it should not be tolerated in youth or any school sports. Fans should get the boot from school stadium.

To clarify I'm talking heckling at the event. I heckle players from my couch all the time. hehe

This kind of behavior is never ok, and should never be tolerated by any coaches or even other parents. I know from personal experience how it makes a kid feel to be treated this way and disrespected for being on a certain team. My DD made a decision to leave one team for another and even now two years later hears all the harsh words from others. So sad when people can't be grown ups and act like adults. When you sit back and look at things it really is just a game people come on, and let the kids enjoy their love for the game. Hope no other DD has to experience that kind of behavior again from any adult.

It happens a lot. At the 2 tournaments I have been to in the past 2 weekends I have heard parents from multiple organizations making fun/ heckling players from the 10u age. Like mentioned before it is classless and shows your backside. I am not sure that the coaches actually are aware of the incidents though, as they stay as far away from the parents as possible during the games.

Just to play off of this, why is it ever ok or necessary to heckle anyone? Childish, classless, moronic....just a few adjectives that come to mind.

IMO...heckling is for losers, or people that have nothing better to do. I've never done it and would never consider it for any reason.

Why do it? ....at ANY level. I enjoy seeing good players perform, whether it's my teams players or the opposing teams players. Give it up to the kids and what they've accomplished.

We had an "adult" who was sitting along our teams side of 1st base in shallow right field last year that yelled "THROW IT!" so our pitcher would make a throw to 2nd on a delayed steal with a runner on 3rd. In a semi-finals. To me, sitting on the bucket, it sounded just like her father and I put my head down thinking "mental error...he (and she) knows better than that" and continued with the game after she airmailed it into center field. While she did raise her hand with the ball, I'm 99% sure she would not have thrown it, had she not been yelled at.

I didn't find out until I got home that day that it was a parent from the other team, who then laughed about it.

Probably best that I didn't know then.

You bullied an 11 year old into failing... why do you continue to wake up every day? And please, for us all...don't ever reproduce again.

Never in youth sports, happens all the time in college by players and students. My DD use to get heckled in CYO by one parent who was a Doctor actually a psychiatrist lol. It started in 5th grade, went through until 8th. I'm sure he loved the fact that my DD went to the same high school as his oldest and was a starter while his kid 2 years older then mine sat the bench. It didn't bother me, my DD was a pitcher the guy would steal our signs yell them out, contanstantly yell illegal pitch because she wasn't on the rubber at the time of pitch release. We beat 'em every time, my parents and our players would all just laugh at the guy. But I will never forget what a tool that guy was.

I had a coach from a well-known organization last year talking under his breath to my 3rd baseman. He would say "miss it, miss it", when a pop-fly was hit to her. I asked her if she cared, or whether it bothered her, and she said "no, he's just an idiot". Makes you proud. BTW, she didn't drop any of those pop-ups.

heck?le (hkl)
tr.v. heck?led, heck?ling, heck?les
1. To try to embarrass and annoy (someone speaking or performing in public) by questions, gibes, or objections; badger.

Wouldn't that also include some of the team cheering by definition ? ;&

My DD is a pitcher and was almost to the point of tears at a tourney last summer due to the "adults" with the opposing team.
I'm the first to admit that I tend to get a little too "momma bear", but the next time the coach came out to coach 3rd base, I simply told him he needed to have a word with his parents because yelling at kids playing ball is stepping over my line. I'm sure he could tell by the tone of my voice that I was less than happy. He must have said something because it did stop.

Gopher,
I think it is different when it is the kids on the opposing team. They are actually playing and are going to get it in return. Now if the kids can follow the parents to work and start heckling them at their job, then I say turnabout is fair play. In fact I am all for that. Maybe we can get Terry Tate office Linebacker out of retirement.

I will disagree with you on this one. I fully agree with cheering on you own players, but very much dislike the loud obnoxious cheers directed at the opposing team, no matter what teams are playing. I just think it adds no value to the game. JMHO.

My wife works very hard to keep all cheers positive.

Every once in a while the girls come up with one that is questionable. Last year it was one where the started chanting about building pressure on th epitcher and catcher real quite and then got a little louder...over and over until they were very loud. My wife made them stop.........I kind of liked that one. I actually like to sit way out in LF so I do not here anything from anyone. And it is far enough away that I can not complain about the umpires.........sorry Bretman.......I am getting better with age. In about 50 years I should be able to just sit and watch without getting all worked up.

I'm with Gopher. My DD never played for a coach that would allow cheers directed at the other team. You only cheered on your team. That is how you play with class and that is a coach teaching class.

I will add that if you go to a tournament with the better teams, they don't do those cheer chants at all. It is so rec league. hehe Okay at 10u but they should grow out of it during 12u and be done before 14u. JMHO
