How important is High School Ball??

The DD had a great H.S. softball career with numerous awards and accolades (conference P.O.Y. junior & senior year) and in the recruiting experience it was hardly looked at by coaches. We were told H.S. ball is too hard to determine how the player truely plays due to the extremely uneven schedule of good and bad teams. There was more emphasis on grades, test scores, class achievements, and the ability to juggle school responsibilites and the athletics. The H.S. athletic stuff was resume filler.

Travel and High School each have their role but if you are lucky you might have a week that dreams are made of...

My dd is a freshman in a top notch program. She understands that a freshman will not get many opportunities at varsity, due to the depth of the program. Still it would be natural to be somewhat discouraged when you have the commitment to the sport that my dd has. This past Wednesday our Varsity and JV traveled together and played on side by side fields at the same time. dd had a shot to left field that was crushed. The next day she was invited to dress with varsity.

Top of the fifth two out, with our team up 3-0, a runner on third, she was given a chance to pinch hit. A few moment later she had her first varsity hit and RBI. Scored moments later when the next batter doubled.

This will forever be an unforgetable week that dreams are made of. To top it off the local cable broadcast the game so she has the tape forever. There is something special about playing for your school and dd and our family appreciates the lifetime memory and thank the coaches for giving her the opportunity. :)
