What is the best number of players to carry on a varsity high school team? Is 14 too many? Or do you carry more?

I would say that a good number of players would be 12 or maybe 13 if you are carrying 2 pitchers. You don't want any more than 2 or 3 extra players. Some of these ladies need to be utility players that can fill in at many different positions. IMHO

I think in high school ?14 is a good number to have....I think in HS a couple more would help just in case...(if you have them kind of numbers) So many situations can occur that any extra body will help....Examples pinch runners, pinch hitters, defensive replacements in certian situations..Flex players, DP players ...With travel ball I would want 11 or 12 for proper play time among the ladies ....Plus in HS ball if you have an injury or an athlete is ineligable you may not be able to move ladies up and down based on your states rules or number of players in your program.. In travel ball it is pretty easy to find a replacement if an injury occurs...

It depends. If everyone can compete 13 or 14 is ok - As has been stated there are lots of ways to use them. The problem ocuurs when after 8 or 9 there isn't any competition but there's a point when you feel you have to get them in. They've paid-to-play and/or worked as hard as more talented players. In that case it's better to limit your exposure & carry a smaller squad.
