I just think when this age group gets older ... we'll see better players at the college level.

I also think that because Softball isn't held in as high regard as other sports at most schools, coaches hang around too long that should be long gone....You think if it was football, some of these coaches would still be around with some of their records and limited post season appearances? I am sure it is that way in most of the secondary sports at Universities though...

I always have to laugh when I see college coaches putting on clinics... and then you look and they haven't won 40% percent of their games.

Go figure .

lol! Surprise... there's a lot more going on in a college athlete's life than just sports. Not too many 12u players are studying for a final exam on a bus to a game. Guaranteed I'll see a fair share of the younger kids at Stingrays this July making the SAME mistakes their peers from 8 or so years ago made. They don't throw any harder, run any faster, or swing the bat any faster. BUT - due to the hotter bats, the kids who have worked diligently on their hitting will be able to hit the ball harder and farther, because the bat exit velocity is somewhat greater. Pitching has really not changed at all, especially at 12u to 14u. The gap widens somewhat starting at 16u when the girls get a little meat on their bones.

What's interesting is to pick a 10u or 12u "superstar" and see where they are in 6 years at 18u. There will be hundreds of "potential" 12u future DI college players at Stingrays this year - but I challenge anyone to pick them!

I have seen so many studs at the earlier ages vanish as they get older, or the rest of the kids catch up to them in size and strength when they hit the older ages. Some peak earlier then fall off and some peak later and run away from the pack.

Ive said this many a time, there are kids that play ball and then there are ball players and there wont be many left from the 12u when they get to 18u. The stresses of school and life will nix the majority. The ones that make it all the way are rare. And even then those that make it thru travel all the way may not make it thru college.

I would like to think with all the instruction that goes on now there will be a better class of athlete in the years to come. Time will tell

This is what I was saying. The 12u through 16u with the instruction they are getting now.. versus a few years back.. will in the end produce better college athletes.

When in the Fall, travel 18u teams scrimmaging college teams and BEATING them.. then there is a problem with recruitment at that college.

And this is why when I read people bemoaning all the travel teams diluting the talent pool I ain't buyin' it. The game has increased demand / popularity. I do agree that there are hidden hierarchies. I'm sure there always have been though.

I'm really trying to watch this softball game between Tennessee and Auburn.....I'd rather get a prostate examination than sit through this mess! The more I watch the more I feel that women's softball shouldn't be on television.:lmao:
