Is Playing for more than 1 Travel Team cool???

We really didn't choose this for our daughter. She had committed to her travel team and then her HS coach decided to do a team during the week. We were told it wasn't mandatory, but more like strongly suggested. She won't do it again next year. I agree with being a kid. However, she's quite excited for her try-outs this weekend and next!

There's a rock and a hard place!!!!

For Have a Clue:
Like I previously stated in my initial post....you are the parents - it's not my place to say what's best for your family/daughter.

As for the "guest" player scenario - I still have the same points of view. To me, a team needs to win with what they started with - working together, growing throughout the year, etc. Picking up a "guest" player should be a last resort thing. If we all are really honest about it......I think we all know that's not the case! Teams are picking up "guest" players all the time to go and win specific tournaments. To me, that isn't winning a tournament the "right" way. That's my opinion - I'm sticking with it...

For 8494Player:
It's not about what other girls are doing either....as I stated parents can choose what they want for their families/daughters. However, people can and will have opinions about it (the ethics of it, the loyalty aspect of it, the perception of the family/player). You can't stop people from having opinions about it.

Personally I think...get on a team - stick with it - and try to go out and win with the team you chose. Seeing girls develop together as a team and then ultimately winning as a team is who I like to see win tournaments... NOT the teams who go get the best "guest" player to add on their roster at a integral time in their schedule.

As for the HS and travel ball scenario - I would venture to say that most serious softball players play HS softball and travel ball. This is a COMPLETELY separate scenario and alltogether different from adding "guest" players to go and win specific tournaments.

I dont think coaches should even bring other girls onto their team if they have another team they play for. and if she is just for extra backup or just "filling in" then she should do just that. only play when needed. i got sat for almost an entire tourney simply because one of these girls decided to "grace us with her presence". i went to all of our practices (and lived quite far from them might i add) and she just showed up and got to play? definatly not cool =P

remember, this girl in columbus was a pitcher. do you really expect the coach to get a non pitcher bench player ready to pitch? how about a catcher? if you don't have these two your not going to win.

Of course, I don't "expect" the coach to train a bench player with no experience in pitching....(or even catching for that matter)....

Being involved in this travel ball experience for even the little bit of time I have, I notice that coaches seem to take girls as position players but who also have experience with pitching (or possibly catching). Even if these girls aren't the top pitchers (or catchers) for that given team - they have them for backup in case things go wrong with their top pitchers (catchers).

This team you are referring to only had 1 pitcher and your dd as a "guest" player? I guess I "expect" this coach's planning to be better at the beginning of the year when he was picking his team......OR he must have had a TON of pitchers not available due to injury or availability with only his top pitcher remaining for the World Series.

Again, it wasn't you or your decision to go to this tournament - it's the practice of "guest" players that is being discussed here. It's not a personal issue. It's the process and the outcomes of "guest" players that I think we all are discussing.
