I am party to some discussion going on elsewhere regarding tournaments that play Gold and Silver brackets. This particular tournament, if you don't come out of pool play 2-1 or better, you fall into the silver bracket, where you can play for the silver bracket champion. Those who remain in the gold bracket play for the tournament champion.

Here is my take on this. If you have enough fields and time to run 2 brackets, why not make it a double elimination tournament allowing for coming out of the loser's bracket to compete for the championship? I know this is not going to be popular with some, but what does "winning" the silver bracket get you? A trophy for best loser? Many, if not most teams, do some shuffling in pool play to see who will be playing where on Sunday. Many teams use pool play to bat everyone so they can see who is hot that weekend. If you are seeded into gold or silver based on pool play, then you are playing your starters every game, every inning. I think that is a foolish way to go.

So what say you? How would you run a tournament like this?

I would run every tournament 5GG, 3 pool into double elimination with all games being 7 innings.
