OGSO only allowing kids on one roster

Sounds like you have one dominant pitcher keeping all those teams down. Good luck this year, hope you can play rec and travel, still would like to see the stats on those state high school champs as far as how many girls traveled in their careers. What about just entering a few tournaments with your rec team? I still think it would be really good for the whole team. Competition is a good thing, win or lose, as long as it is kept in perpespective. A loss in a scrimmage does not count on your record. It might for the team that beat you though:) Did you win or lose the state last year? If you lost, I would bet it was to a travel pitcher, right or wrong? Believe it or not , there is a world of difference in travel and rec.

This team has won State B division in back to back years, including this past year. They were runners up in their final year of the A division. They beat three travel ball pitchers this year in the State tournament. One from Lorain who played for the Diamond Chix Gold team in 12u, the second game was against the Ohio Ice pitcher that has been noted previously in this thread, and in the Championship game it was against the pitcher from the Cyclones 14u team who played up for that team but played her age (12u) in OGSO. Ironically, it was that same Cyclone pitcher that gave this team its last loss.

The work ethic of this team is second to none but as stated in earlier posts, it will become increasingly difficult to continue this run they are on without coming across competition that they face in the tournament, throughout the season. By allowing travel ball players to play OGSO in Portage, it is only going to make this team stronger in the coming years, regardless if they have any travel ball players on it.

They won state last year and year before. Yes for B league she was dominate throws about 50mph one of the fastest in OGSO B division last year from what I understand. Very good rec ball pitcher can't say how good she would be in travel ball. I am the one that offered this team to play in one of our tournament's for free but they declined.

great job folks but we are only half way there... whats the game plan before the meeting on the 16th?

Cool our heels. If our reps vote and it is an informed vote, then we have no choice but to abide by the decision or get out of the organization. That's the way democracy works, whether we like the rule or not.

Nothing for us to do, but wait and see. I'll be there to vote if needed or to offer/debate suggestions for a compromise rule. :cap:

You have to wonder why their coach wouldn't want to push these girls. If they don't get pushed , it will all be for nothing in High School. (maybe) I think there are just too many girls out there that are pushing themselves. Better competition makes better ballplayers.

ok lets focus back to the original post --- enough about the rec team Jags

We need to keep grinding this out people! right now how many different tonwships are participating in this thread and have concern about the rule and getting it changed? i see crestwood, garrettsville, .... others not from Portage south....

Aren't there something like 16 reps that will vote? Please list your username and city or township you are from and then we should maybe contact all the ones that do not either know about this or need to know about this and get their respective coaches / parents involved. I think if we just step back and wait--- we are in trouble. We got a re-vote so lets make sure every rep and all coaches are informed about the initial vote and the reason for a re-vote and make them all aware of this thread and the situation at hand.

list your username and township: then maybe we can narrow it down and see who else we need to contact does Streetsboro, Windham or Edinburg even know about the first vote, the upset people around the county and do they know there is a re-vote? I am guessing but i think most are not aware of it and it is our job to make them aware.

I think all Streetsboro's better players that do both have now left the OGSO and play in the CVEL league and Windhams better players have now just focused on travel ball. This is not in any way a jab.
just saying they may not care either way.

Here is a idea say the heck with OGSO and go to the CVEL they have a A and a B division that allow travel ball kids and it has better competition. Any one interested in this idea I can get you in contact with the right people.

i guess we could... what and where is CVEL ? I could take the whole team out of OGSO if I wanted. We were going to play in the SPL (summit premiere league) last year for extra games and better competition but that never happened.

If someone wants to work on this with me, i will help contact each rep in portage south and discuss the issues at hand... can't do it by myself!

Here is a Idea why don't OGSO do like the CVEL and have a A and B division where the better teams and teams with travel ball players play in the A division and the traditionally weaker teams would play B.

first thing is first... lets see what happens on the 16th (Tom your positive the revote is on the 16th and is it an open to the public meeting?) is ryan kissle still the state rep - if not who is and whats the contact info for this person?

WWOLFF~~ thanks for the advise but Once we know where OGSO stands... then we can look for other options IF they keep travel ball players out. We were told (Matt told my wife) it is possible to get a whole team release from Portage and go play in another county like geuaga and still play in OGSO- but not sure how true that is or if another county would be open to adding teams from nother county.

bottom line a lesson will be taught to my children either way... stand up for your beliefs and speak out when you feel strongly about an issue. :yahoo:

If we lose.... then so be it, but we know we tried. I wont sit back and watch adults ruin a good thing for our children without a fight!:yahoo:

Our state rep is now Trisha Peterson out of Garrettsville, Ryan has been MIA on this whole issue or atleast never communicated to us, so not sure what his role will be going forword. He is our president, I think, but our treasurer voted no on the first vote for us.

Trish said that it sounds like Windham will not vote again, cannot make the vote, but will not send another to vote? Not sure whats going on there.

I have heard atleast one yes vote has been changed to no, once thier organization heard the details they made the rep change the vote.

I understand that the reps are suppossed to give the details to their people to decide on how to vote, this is why I said cool our heels. However, I have not heard about any open forum thus far either. I know Garrettsville is ready to vote "no" again unless some coaches/parents come forword unexpectedly in support.

Not sure if it is a public meeting, but definately on Oct 16th.

One thing, we are all passionate about this, but please try to not make it personal or we will burn bridges we may need later. Does not do any good to attack people, sometimes we need to agree to disagree and move on. After this vote, I am prepared to do that.

Thanks again for everyone's dedication and support so far. atleast this has caused an informed vote to happen, hopefully all reps do their jobs this time around.

Go here to get our State reps conact info: http://www.leaguelineup.com/directors.asp?cmenuid=9&url=portagesouth&sid=375003286
She can let you know what the reps were told and where they stand.

No, our organization is in agreement at this point and before, "NO" on this subject.
The reason I started this discussion was to get the word out and open a dialog, we actually already voted "NO". Once I heard that not every rep voted and many of us did not know what was to be voted on, I hoped that enough would respond and ask for an informed revote.
As I stated, I already went to my "chain of command" and this forum was one of my few avenues to openly discuss it and make change. I hoped that enough would respond here and force others to see how much of a profound change this rule truly is and how it affects the families. Judging by the "views" I'd say it stuck a chord.

according to Eric Janus (current C-wood pres.) - he said he voted NO ...

isn't all votes public record? and if Windham wont vote than maybe they need kicked out of Portage south. ALL townships need to vote. how silly is that?

Geauga is actually part of Trumbull OGSO, so you're better off either trying to get in with Trumbull or with Meander.

We were told Streetsboro, Edinburgh, and Windham were not present to vote. Ended up 7-6 last time, one of those yes votes said it will be no this time, that makes it 6-7 against...hopefully.

I wanted to add a thumbs up to the way the CVEL runs their league. The A division teams play highly competitive weekday ball and provide a great supplement to some of the kids who play in weekend tournaments.

They've even scheduled their end of year league tournaments for the older kids to occur during the week to accommodate tournament teams.

I don't know too much about OGSO, but I hope you all can reach a better solution.
