OGSO only allowing kids on one roster

The revote will be taking place on October 16 because there is an area that has pushed their Rep. to change their vote, so the only fair thing to do is to have everyone revote....
The meeting will NOT be open to the public only to the Reps, so hopefully the Reps will by now have discussed this issue with their areas and heard each areas concern and got their vote, this will be the final vote regardless of the outcome...
Hopefully ALL areas will have a Rep present to cast their vote...

Here read this for OGSO Bylaws http://www.ogso.org/downloads/2010-OGSO-Rulebook.pdf

Seems to me any rule changes need to be made at the state level
Rule 1

1: Charter, Team & Player Eligibility
E. All Leagues in all Charters shall adhere to OGSO Rules and
Regulations during regular season play.
1. Any Charter that wishes to deviate from OGSO Rules and
Regulations playing rules must have their playing rule changes
approved at the February meeting by a majority vote of the
Executive Committee in the year the charter holder wishes such
rule changes to take place.

The way this reads, the individual charters cannot put this rule into effect without having voted on it, presenting it to the state board, and the state board voting to approve it for that charter. If that's the case, I would also be contacting the state board members to make your wishes known so that even if your local charter passes it, it can be killed at the state level.

I guess you would have to see this disparity to really understand. I must not be able to get you to understand, I guess I 'll give up. Just picture your team being forced to play an all 12 year old team when you weren't allowed to have one. You have to have 5, 11 year olds because your president said so. Then after your beating by the other county( for the last 50 years) you shake hands and say nice fair game, again.

I do understand where you are coming from. You are frustrated by a rule your Charter has that all districts do not have.

I just worry about my district more so than state. Here is why: My community has 7 total teams in A through C. D plays outside of OGSO so I won?t count them. We have had a pretty good run of sending a team to the OGSO State tournament the past few years. But before that, we went many, many, years not sending any. So if I send 1 of 7, if I manage to send any, I tend to worry about the District more than State. Just do the math. Last year my community teams had 112 regular season scheduled games under our District rules, vs. only 3 State level games. It?s a no brainer that the District is more important to my community overall.

I too have had a balanced team that was beat by an all "senior" team at State, although my charter does not force this. My community forces it at certain levels becuase we feel it is best for our program.

Very well stated. I totally understand your side. I guess I just feel that if we are all under the same power( being the state) we should all follow the same rules, being the way the teams are made up , and we should also be able to play in the tournament at single age groups if the number of girls or boys that you have in your community dictate that. I do not see any fairness in a 9 and 10 year old team being forced to play an all 10 year old team from another county. That scenario just does not add up to fairness in my book. Maybe the state should be contacted about what is going on and see what their opinion is . That would put an end to it all, right or wrong, we have to follow their rules. If they say that is the way it is, the only other option is to seek somewhere else to play. I truly believe that is what is going on in Hot Stove baseball today and that will happen to Portage also if they pass that rule . Just my opinion, not worth much, but I would like to see a fair playing field for all no matter what county you reside in.

The revote on the Portage County South OGSO one roster rule went down yesterday. The result was 8-6 against the rule, thus over turning the previous vote. Our kids can now play for the local rec teams and still choose to expand on that with travel ball play.

Thank you for all who voted and weighed in on this subject.

Yes...thanks to everyone who spoke out and to the reps who reconsidered this vote! I am so glad that the original restrictions were overturned.
