In general, I'm not a big fan of the idea of paid youth sports coaches. However, that is an entirely different animal than paying for a coach's accommodations, mileage and possible per diem for food while at out-of-town tournaments.
It shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg for the privilege of volunteering your time, lol.
I'm all for making it as financially painless as possible to coach the girls. It would be a shame if good folks were unable to get involved, solely due to the financial burden imposed.
There's no way to adequately compensate a good, conscientious coach for the intangibles...like feisty said, hours of time on the computer and phone at home, and everything else a coach does outside of being on the diamond. It shouldn't cost more to coach than it does to be a parent of a player.

Also wanted to add a little more re: the post LCTigerdad made above...I just pm'd him with this note:
"I love the idea of paying the college players...for several reasons:
1. they are an awesome resource---up on newest, latest techniques/drillz/skillz
2. They connect so well with the girls
3. They can use the cash, lol...and it might help lure them into a regular coaching gig."
