Question: What is the best way to determine that a bat is the right size for your DD?, and what are the best bats out there on the market right now?

My DD would like a light bat with a length of 32 to 33 and wants the weight as low as possible, is this practical?

Thanks

Best way is to watch her swing and let her feel the bat. Some batting cages have demo bats. I wouldn't go lighter than -10 in my opinion. She may like the feel of a -12 swinging it but not like the feel of how the ball comes off the bat. Also - bats with same weight may have a different feel because of how the weight is distributed through the bat. (balanced vs endloaded.) Balanced bats typically feel lighter. Maybe she can try out her teammates bats and get her coaches opinion.

Lots can go into the type of bat that is correct for your DD. Have her put her arms at her side and measure from her wrist to the floor. That should give you a good idea of the length of bat she should use.
Is she a slapper, power hitter, combination or what? That will help determine what type of bat you may want to get for her.
Why does she want a light bat?

The previous posters are right on the money. As WilltoWin said bats are weighted differently that is why its very important that she try out any bat before you make a purchase. If she is new the sport I would not spend a lot of $. I would focus on proper mechanics before I worried about the brand. My daughter is 12 she is 5'1 and currently uses a 31" DeMarini CF4. This bat is very popular but is more on the expensive side. She previously used a TPS Zepher it was a decent bat at a reasonable price. Bats are like running shoes everyone has their preference but they all will get the job done.

I would strongly suggest that you get input from your DD's coach. He or she will probably have a very good idea of what type of bat your DD should use.
