They talked about moving some games to Sunday, but the tournament draw is tomorrow all over the state (at 2 pm I was told). None of the late afternoon games will be made up.

Saw from the box scores today that Central Crossing did not pitch their #1 against Elyria. Looks like they were intending to use her for the Poland match-up. A real shame that game got canceled.

Looks like Elyria threw their #2 as well and beat Poland with their #1.

Poland/Central Crossing and Keysone/North Canton Hoover would have been great afternoon games...never happen now! Different Divisions

I don't blame them for that at all. Did Gabriel pitch against Elyria?

I made a comment something like this about hoover using their #1 against keystone or not. and the reply with quote came back, as if the use of a pitcher should not effect how good a team was and to stop using excuses. But, we all know that a #1 can make a marked difference in a team's showing.

It's too bad that a schedule couldn't have been put together that all #1 pitchers could be used for all the top notch scheduled games.

I really thought Central would have shown better. Elyria must be lights out.

Yes, I thought long about posting my comment, because I thought I would get responses along the line that you described (and I believe that is the gist of some of the responses to my comment).

I have no connection to Central Crossing (in fact, some of our Buckeye Heat 95 players are on HS teams that meet against CC either in league or the state tournament, and we root against CC in those cases), but I do have high respect for this team and its coach.

Some could call pointing out the pitcher used in a loss as an excuse, but I have no standing or motive to make an excuse for a team that I often root against. Like you, woolfman, I think that who pitches in a game, especially with a pitcher like the #1 for CC, makes a difference. Note that I am not saying CC would have won with their #1. But I think that was a possibility and I think it was a probability that Elyria would not have racked up the runs that it did in the actual game.

Well you both are correct. My comment that he is reffering to was mostly based on that fact the he said Hoover was a better team with out any reason or real knowledge and then comes back and says the pitcher thing before they even play! I surely understand the difference between a # 1 and a #2 (Note both games between Elyria and Poland this year). I was not sure if you knew that CC didn't see Elyria's #1 either.

After one game I heard another guy complaining about the field being short and the wind blowing out!! They were playing on the same (200ft/6ft tall fence) field!
Sorry if either of you were offended I must be getting old and cranky.

No, I'm not offended at all. As I said, I hesitated to post my comment because people could react to it as making excuses for one team. And I appreciated the information about Elyria not pitching its #1. When I'm not able to see a game live I like as much information as possible. I posted about the pitching situation because I thought others would similarly like such details.

As for old and cranky, I've got you beat in spades. :)

Wendy's: Elyria pitched #2 vs. Poland
Prebis: Elyria and Poland pitched #1: Elyria's #1 is a Keystone resident who open-enrolled to Elyria, I don't know the whole story behind that and don't want to! Many variables out there, eh?

Elyria's #1 is dynamite. Their #2 is very good also. Same with Poland. If the sophomore at Poland still pitches, their #3 would be most schools #1.

In reference above, most statements made have reasons that they get made. To say i made the statement with no reason or real knowledge is not really true. Hoover won the big school championship last year. They bring almost every player back from that team, and all of those same players worked hard over the winter and have improved. Knowing their coach's history and knowing and watching most of these players all summer and some of the winter, I would say that they are the best team in the state on most days.

sure, DI teams are not always the best teams in the state, and can lose periodically to DII and DIII schools, but 8 out of 10 times playing the best DI team will beat any of the other divisions.

I also have seen Keystone play and my own opinion is that Hoover is the better team. #1 team, both squads, on a neutral site, I think Hoover is the better team. Coaching adds to the team.

I am not a Hoover resident. Most times I root against them. I don't have any relatives that go to Hoover or coach at Hoover. I have no vested interest either.

But hasn't Hoover lost to a couple of teams that they should have beaten? And isn't Keystone undefeated while playing quality opponents as well? Just curious.

Obviously, I am a Keystone fan, but realistic. I have seen Hoover twice, DeSales (twice), Elyria (numerous times), Central Crossing (twice), Milan Edison, Poland (once with #1 and once with #2), and many more good teams this year. I would say that ANY TEAM on any given day could beat the others. They are all so close, it comes down to luck and timely hitting. Elyria beat Poland on a swinging bunt, two more bunts to load the bases, and a timely hit (Gabriel fell down after fielding two bunts). Hoover did not impress me as a definitive "best team" at all. In northern Ohio there is defending D-2 champ Poland on top (because of Gabriel), with Hoover, Elyria, Keystone and the rest very, very close. I've been following Lake Catholic and NDCL, not bad either. Until the tournament tells the final tale in each division, it's a toss up. Who knows, there may be a super team with great freshmen coming out of the southern part of the state! Polls mean nothing come tournament time, every game will depend on talent, plus the "lucky" breaks. Just my opinion.
