All,

I have seen several posts regarding clinics (Hillhouse, Bustos, etc) lately and I was wondering if there was any impact to middle or high school elgibility if girls were to attend these clinics. I wouldn't think so but I was looking for thoughts from the group.

Thanks,

Great question. The ridiculous Ohio school rules could find something wrong with anything. But, since the clinicians have no affiliation to the school, common sense would say no. Of course, common sense would say that the school/Ohio school rules shouldn't prohibit a high school player from also practicing with her travel team during the HS season but, apparently they do. I still cannot understand how that is legal. Different topic for sure but, this is beyond me how the Ohio rules can govern what a kid does outside of school.

OHSAA rules says they are not members of the team until the first scrimmage or game... so, yes, this would be legal.

5.3) Individual skill instruction may be received by a fast pitch softball squad member at
any time in individual or group lessons. The school fast pitch softball coach may
conduct individual or group lessons for a fast pitch softball squad member during
the period of June 1-July 31 provided the 10-day limitation is not exceeded.

Many clinics such as the Bustos clinic are not being ran by the coaches therefore no violations is occuring.
