Very glad to hear she is ok!

Would love to have it made mandatory.

Sorry that team sent such a slam to that other team by not wearing them...

and I just ordered 3 for our team.

Come on Musty!

Only helmets are mandatory in pro Hockey, not masks.

:lmao: True, Stayed up too late watching the Bears choke. I was trying to reference how they started making kids wear helmets when the pro's didn't like my hero's Stan Mikita, Bill White & Bobby Hull didn't. :D

Great to hear she is alright. Wish more girls would really consider wearing them.

My DD's coach makes them wear theirs even when they are warming up. You never know when you may get a stray throw out there.

Damn, how old are you? Mikita was wearing a helmet in the late 60's lol, after Masterson died. I think it was 68 or 69!!! I remember that round ridiculous helmet that his company manufactured and he wore lol.

We had a young lady with the Cincy Ice go down last Fall with a shot up the middle at my tournament.

I never want to see that again. Never. As an umpire , I make on deck batters go to the back side of the batter to warm up. Too many close calls over the years.

Just to preface my question I am really happy she is ok and not against the masks at all.

But, is there a reason she is playing up an age bracket. A couple of years, especially at the age level can really make a difference in players skills and physical developement.

I know it seems like she is playing up in age bracket but she turns 11 on Dec. 31st and has to play 12u in 2010. The other team had several players who are 14u players for 2010 and I agree the couple of years make a big difference in physical developement.

My daughter is a pitcher that has taken a ball to the face and luckily she was wearing a facemask. At the time she was a 10-U pitcher playing at Stingrays tourny. The ball traveled so fast back that my daughter was still in her wind up. Even knowing she was wearing a face mask, I about freaked as my daughter flew backwards from the velocity of the hit. I can say with no uncertainty that my daughter would have been leaving that field by ambulance had she not had the face mask on.

We are certainly seeing more and more face masks on the younger players. Not only on pitchers but the corners, along a few middle infielders. As they age up through the softball they will run into either unwritten rules or explicate instructions against the use of a face mask.

What kind lability does a coach/team take on when a player isn't allowed to wear a face mask?

My daughter's coach made the corners and the pitcher wear a mask from an early age. At many games we were the only team wearing them. By requiring teammates to wear masks, it helped our girls to not feel so self-conscious about wearing them.

As a youth I got drilled by a foul ball while warming up on another field before our game. I just bought my 10 year old a Rip-it before tryouts in August. She put it on and didn't think twice about wearing it. She loves it and the confidence she has shown while charging balls on the infield and camping under fly balls has increased ten fold.

I know as she gets older she will probably become self conscious of it...but I'll cross the bridge when I get there.

If she isnt allowed I would take my kid and find her another home. I couldnt immagine a coach not allowing them.

Agreed. If you have a coach that won't allow them you have a nut on your hands. Run, run, run.

Lets see self conscious wearing one now, or self conscious of a deformed face???

Seeing our HS pitcher who is the best fielding pitcher I've ever seen, take one off the cheek without coming near it, I truly expected a horrific view when she stood up. She was a lucky one as it was off the cheek bone, for how many lucky ones there are, how many aren't??

Same thing was said about helmet facemasks.... The day will soon be here due to insurance that they are mandatory....
