Rules question re switch hitting

This past weekend we played in an ASA Tourney, 12U. One of our players began batting right, then switched to left, then switched back to right all in the same at bat. The ump didn't say anything however the opposing coach warned our coach against doing this. What is the official ruling, if any, and does it change for USSSA or NSA?

That's another myth that has been around for years. I don't believe that any sanctioning body has any rules addressing this. (But if I'm wrong, I'll hear about it here on OFC!)

Can we assume that your team was ahead ?

There is no rule against switching at any point or as many times as you want during an at bat in any sanction that I know of.

Besides, why would you want to keep switching? Say the batter gets a good look at a few pitches. All that information in her head resets back to zero as soon as she steps into the other batter's box.

That's just stupid plain and simple, just someone trying to get into the pitchers head and at age 12 is detrimental to the kid at bat learning to hit...... Are we teaching the game or gamesmanship??

Please by all means... switch back and forth as many times at the plate as you want against us. Anytime a batter is willing to change the look at the ball coming in you're just helping my pitcher out. Besides, who would bat from the right in fastpitch if they were a good hitter from the left???

There's no rule that limits how many times you can switch to the other side of the plate.

But...beware! There is a rule that says you can't cross direcly over to the other batter's box once the pitcher is in position to pitch (ie: has properly engaged the pitcher's plate as part of the normal pitching preliminaries) and the ball is live. If you do that, you're out. So, if you want to switch over, make sure you do it before the pitcher is ready to pitch, or that time has first been called.

Thanks, bretman! Just the clarification I was looking for. This is not my DD nor am I the coach. I just like familiarizing myself with the rules.
